Captain Frank M Hawks became the first to fly a glider towed by an airplane across the country. In rain at Van Cortlandt Park 15,000 people watched the Eaglet land after an eight day trek from San Diego. The flight covered about 2950 miles with 85 12 hours of flying time and 16 minutes of gliding at stops.
