The Mount Dora Shuffleboard Club began with seven members in 1927 as it petitioned for space and built three courts. It expanded through Donnelly Park, 11 then 400 members, a 99-year lease in 1962, and a $15,000 clubhouse split with the city, making it Florida’s only club operating on a long-term lease. The club now has nine officers, 700 cues, members from 41 states and four Canadian provinces, and hosts 126 tournaments yearly with social events and potluck dinners.

Medical Associates of Atlanta says groundbreaking is imminent for the Golden Triangle Nursing Center on Eudora Road Mount Dora. Miller Construction Co. of Leesburg will build the 750000 dollar facility on a 20 acre annexed tract with a six to seven month construction span, targeting opening in early spring 1966. The firm reviews additional nursing facility projects in Lake County but has not finalized plans.

Clarence Owens Delegates at World War I Veterans Meet
Clarence Owens commander of Mount Dora World War I Barracks served as a delegate to the National Convention of World War I Veterans in Tampa from September 18 to 22. The gathering drew 10 400 delegates including about 2 500 women auxiliary members with Hawaii absent. A 47 year reunion of several comrades was noted and the group estimated 1 750 000 living veterans nationwide.
