Forest Service workshop trains garden club leaders in land management

Sixty women across the nation, sponsored by Shell Oil and International Paper, learn to lead workshops to boost local environmental involvement and land management solutions.

Defensive Driving Course Offered at Vo Tech This Week
A defensive driving course will be offered at the Lake County Area Vocational-Technical Center in Eustis on Thursday and Tuesday. Lt. Paul Morrot of the Leesburg Police Department will instruct. Classes run 6 to 10 p.m. and completion may qualify for EMT courses and insurance premium discounts. The Defensive Driving Handbook is available for purchase and an optional 5:30 to 6 p.m. pre-class session exists.

Carter to Speak at Florida Democratic Women Convention
The Democratic Women's Club of Florida will host its 20th convention September 9 to 11 at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach. Delegates from Lake County include Ada Hedges Daisy Mead Dorothy Pentecost and Mae Radcliff. Special banquet guests will be Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale with Betty Furness Liz Carpenter and Lindy Boggs also speaking. More than 500 members are expected to attend as Florida marks its 20th birthday with a gala.
