Mount Dora Hits 15 Ton Cans For War Salvage Drive
Mount Dora residents contributed more than 30 000 pounds of household tin cans to the OAAB Salvage Yard from 1943 to 1945. Capt Samuel M Gourse Orlando base salvage officer announced the tallies and noted ongoing demand for waste paper with trucks ready to collect. The community salvage committee led by F A Whiting and J S Banks coordinated regular pickups and urged residents to flatten and store cans at the local station for upcoming loads.
