Art Williams and Pete Jennings of Leesburg won the first annual United Way 100 Point Shuffleboard Tournament held in Leesburg October 17 and 18 with 142 participants. Second place went to Mr and Mrs Lyle Wood of Mount Doxa, trophies presented by Sonny Bell. The event raised $102.20 benefiting the Lake County United Way fund drive. Wayne Hoger organized the tournament and a rotation of hosts is planned to spotlight the 12 United Way agencies.
The Golden Triangle Chapter No. 405 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees met October 16 at the Eustis Community Center. Raymond Janson spoke on recently passed legislation aiding retirees and on pending bills. William Ivey outlined procedures for widows and necessary documents, including death certificates, marriage certificates, and Will, to finalize benefits. Future meetings will be at Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce Baggage Room, with the next on the second Wednesday of November at 2 p.m.
