The Mount Dora Volunteer Firemen's Association launches its fifth annual drive to fund firefighting and safety efforts in coordination with the Mount Dora Fire Department. Citizens can donate at set levels, receive booster items, and mail checks to the association.

Golden Gem Growers to hear Congressman Kelly guest speaker

Golden Gem Growers will host U.S. Congressman Richard Kelly as guest speaker at the 1976 annual meeting in Umatilla next Thursday November 18. The topic covers expanding foreign markets for U.S. citrus with over 500 growers and guests anticipated at Exposition Hall Eustis for a 9 45 a.m. start and a traditional picnic lunch. President John Nelson notes the theme Growers Own reflects the cooperative ownership by more than 500 growers and the co op's leadership in the citrus industry despite market fluctuations.

Mount Dora grows its candidate list for the December 14 municipal election to ten as Lavond Clayton and incumbent C O Lott join earlier filings by Ronald Archer John Coffield Colene Hutcheson Clifford Harden Ernest Knecht Robert Travers and other incumbents Howard Cox and Gordon Dake. Lott notes six years on council brought tangible improvements including a 31000 water line extension two million dollar drainage project site purchase and thirty seven thousand dollars for paving nine blocks. Clayton, a longtime resident and caregiver, seeks a seat to influence city government.

Vandalism hits Mount Dora High School vehicles

Seven cars parked at Mount Dora High School while band members played at an out of town game were damaged last Friday. One car was broken into with a CB radio 8 track tape deck and clarinet stolen a battery removed from another two cars were damaged but nothing taken. Principal J R Folsom can be reached at 383 2177. A reward is offered for information about the missing clarinet valued at 200. Det. Mike Hunter notes no clear motive and no sign of organized effort.

Mount Dora to Consider New Utility Rates and Gilbert Park Plan

Mount Dora City Council will meet next Tuesday at 8 p.m. to discuss an ordinance adjusting electricity rates by consolidating four categories into three and a proposed sewer charge tied to water bills. The plan includes a minor rate reduction for small residential users and large industrials, offset by a sewer increase for non-residential customers. A master plan for Gilbert Park, Palm Island, and nearby property called Heritage Village is also studied, with funds sought from state and federal sources.

Holler, 45 Pioneers Enter Automotive Hall of Fame

William E. Holler of Mount Dora and 44 automotive industry pioneers were inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in Midland Michigan. The project was led by the Automotive Organization Team, formerly Automotive Old Timers, a national nonprofit. Holler had worked for General Motors during his career and relocated to Mount Dora in 1946, where he resides at Breezy Point.
