Mount Dora City Council Resolves Zoning And Park Matters

In a brief session the Mount Dora City Council approved the third reading of a zoning amendment for higher use property, rejected three van truck bids for variances, and directed bid clarifications. A Lions Memorial Park project gifting by the Fowlers was endorsed, with the Quit-Claim Deed transferring 2% acres. The council also approved dismantling Brown Builder's Supply building for a future Public Safety Building site and rejected a North Donnelly Street produce market variance. Scenic route signs funding with the Mount Dora Rotary Club was authorized.

Road Improvements Planned for Golden Triangle Center Access

State Road Department plans leveling resurfacing and relining at Golden Triangle Shopping Center entrances and adds an extra lane on Eudora Road from 19A to 441. The budget includes these improvements long sought by Golden Triangle residents. Also Social Security rep to visit Mount Dora City Hall on November 16 from 2 to 4 pm for benefits information.

Mount Dora Hosts Amateur Dora Invitational Golf Tourney

Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce and Mount Dora Golf Association announce a three day Dora Invitational for amateurs November 17 to 19. The 54 hole event offers over $2,000 in prizes, $15 entry, attire, and social events including a cocktail party and buffet.

Yuletide Plans by Merchants in downtown area

Members of the Downtown Merchants Association met for a luncheon at the Grandview Hotel Dining Room to plan Christmas decorations. Merchants will decorate store windows for judging by the Lakes and Hills Garden Club. Outside decorations due by Saturday, Nov. 25, with window contest deadline set for Dec. 7 and winners announced during the Christmas Parade on Dec. 9.

Hurricanes Travel To Oviedo Friday Non-conference Tilt

Former Baptist Minister Dies in California

The Rev. Matthew J. Bouterse aged 85 died on November 4 in Oceanside California. He preached at Mount Dora First Baptist Church and served Miami and Jacksonville churches. He and his wife were radio evangelists hosting Family Altar of the Air on WDBO in the 1930s. Surviving are sons Howard Matthew J. and others, a daughter and many grandchildren. Burial was in Oceanside.

More than 70 parade units are expected in the Mount Dora Jaycees Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday December 9 at 2 p.m. Parade co chairmen Dick Pasill and Dell Wilber call it the second largest in Central Florida featuring professional floats bands and local queens.
