Mount Dora Community Church’s Early Founding Story
The Mount Dora Congregationalists organized in 1883 after settlers from Methodists and Congregationalists met in homes for prayer. The church moved from a rough schoolhouse to Burns Inn, then a dedicated building with Rev. W. Fiske and Rev. Mr. Tomlinson guiding its growth. Women formed a Ladies Aid Society, later the Woman's Association, supporting funding for organs, roof, lights, and chairs. The Endeavor Society helped with a cement walk project, and the church aided Rollins College’s early development.

The Mount Dora City Council voted to reject all pending CATV franchise applications. Councilman Gordon Dake, utilities head, recommended the move saying it is not needed here. The CATV system would offer added channel reception to subscriber homes.
