Schedule announced for Mount Dora 75 summer recreation program
Mount Dora announces a curtailed summer recreation plan under City Council recreation chair Gordon Dake. Programs include two pools at Mount Dora High and Middle School, Hurricane Hut Youth Center, basketball at Middle School, arts and crafts, plus AAU swim team use of the high school pool. Hours vary, with adults allowed evenings at the high school pool. Lifeguards will be on duty. no lessons unless someone volunteers.

Zellwood Sweet Corn Festival Opens With Delta Burke
Delta Burke Miss Florida 1974 will join Senator Lawton Chiles at the Zellwood Sweet Corn Festival opening ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday May 31. The festival will feature the world’s biggest corn boil with boiled corn, beans, franks, cole slaw and iced tea served noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday June 1. Advance tickets are $1.75, gate price $2.00. Site is Zellwood on Poncan Road with rides, games, island steel and bluegrass bands.

SR 46 widening plan eyed for 1990 upgrade
A Sorrento meeting heard a DOT plan to widen SR 46 from US 441 Mount Dora to the Lake Seminole County line at the Wekiva River into a 4 lane divided highway. Right of way purchase is set for 1977/78 with an estimated $900000 cost. Three corridors were studied. the DOT favors following existing SR 46 for minimal land impact and cost efficiency.
