Mount Dora seniors recognize top graduates and scholars
Mount Dora High School held its Senior Awards Assembly naming valedictorian and salutatorian honorees. Beverly Harvey and Pike Hamlin shared valedictorian status with identical GPAs, while Mary Kay Demro and Paul Logas were co salutatorians. Magna and cum laude graduates were named with GPAs from 3.4 to 3.8. Scholarships from Bank of Mount Dora and the Edwin Budge Meade estate totaled 2 000 or more, awarded to multiple seniors including Harvey and Demro.

The Mount Dora High School ceremony in McGeehee Memorial Field House saw Lake County School Board member James Dunaway confer diplomas after remarks by Principal T. E. A 14 year old Mount Dora Middle School boy was stabbed amid a pre dawn softball game altercation. Police report a severed artery and a lot of blood but provided few details while the injured youth received care at Waterman Memorial Hospital and the assailant is in custody with under investigation.

Lightning Strikes Mount Dora Community Building
A lightning bolt hit the Mount Dora Community Building at 8 p.m. last Thursday during the Mount Dora High School Awards night, shattering a pilaster cap and sending concrete onto six parked cars.
