Scout Master Buster Williams requests 100 percent parent attendance at the Cub Scout Pack meeting on Thursday May 31 at the Community building to view the season finale awards program. Dens four and five will lead the program.
Brownies will fly up and Girl Scouts receive awards at 3:30 this afternoon. The annual Brownie promotion and Court of Awards are conducted under Mrs Sam Shaw, Scout leader, at the Girl Scout Little House.
Henry Smith of Mount Dora created a roadside straw sculpture after a load of straw spilled on the Orange Blossom Trail near Grand View. He received a $15 fine for careless loading though the mayor sympathized, noting the mishap was not his fault.
Mount Dora high school honors Jeff Ray and Leslie Sanders at the annual athletic association banquet. Jeff, a Hurricanes football end and standout basketball shooter, and Leslie, a Hurricanette, are among several players receiving letters and certificates. Coaches Odom and Spear plus Betty Ann Haynes and Ed Hansel were thanked, with gifts and film entertainment featured.
Vincent Schieber of Mount Dora was a winner in Simplicity Manufacturing Co.'s nationwide promotion conducted locally at the Lake County Fair in March. He will receive an edger trimmer.
Soloists Nancy Eichhorn C M Jones and Don Alexander plus Martha Sad earned superior ratings at the state band contests in Gainesville on May 19. The band performs its annual Spring concert tonight at 8 at the Community building featuring those superior winning numbers and new selections.

Mayor W D Patton announced William Ward a volunteer fireman and former tree expert will join the regular police force for three summer months. He starts June 1 and will cover night duty during holidays.
