Denslow Joins Army Reserve as Chamber Deputy Reassigned

David A. Denslow assistant secretary of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce was inducted into the U S Army Reserve on Wednesday May 5. Ralph Arey of Montverde succeeds him as assistant secretary and has been with the chamber for over a year. Denslow returned to Camp Blanding May 12 after a one week furlough and will be assigned to another camp for basic training. Arey a 18 year Lake County resident born in Maine has held school principal positions in Augusta and New Haven before joining the chamber staff in February 1942 and later promoting educational projects. he has two sons in the Army.

Secretary Lehmann Reviews War Savings Policy at Lake County Office

Karl Lehmann secretary of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce on leave to the Treasury Depart ment as Deputy Administrator of War Savings visited the Tavares office to review policy details and guide assistant Ralph Arey. He praised local Lake County newspapers for their strong contribution to the war effort and publicity for War Savings stamps and bonds.

Last week the club enjoyed a band recital by ten school musicians under Manuel Sedano, including a humorous Descriptive number. The event ended with a playful strike bit reflecting a playful demand sequence. Kiwanian Tom Murray of Eustis attended as the lone out of town guest. Dr. Richardson won a prize and Dick Edgerton provided cigars.

Orphanage Children to Sing Sunday at Methodist Church

The Florida Methodist Children's Home senior chorus of twenty six older boys and girls will sing at First Methodist Church on May 23 morning. Located on Lake Monroe near DeLand Sanford, the Home houses 140 children on a 32 acre farm. Rev. Harold R. Barnes will deliver the sermon and the chorus will join a luncheon after services. A special offering will support the Home, funded largely by fifty Sunday offerings from Methodist church schools.

Concert Date Change for School Band Spring Event

The second annual spring concert by the School Band, moved from Friday May 28 to Thursday May 27 in the Community Building. Prof. Harry T. Parker, director of Orlando school bands, cannot attend Friday and will adjudicate the Mount Dora band on numbers from the first half. The program details will appear in the Topic next week.

Feed Store Wins Prize in Food for Freedom Contest

Moorhead's Feed Store has been named a winner in Purina Mills sponsored nationwide Food for Freedom contest. The prize is a $25 War Bond. About 3,000 Purina merchants competed for four months by exceeding quotas and aiding customers to stretch food for more meat milk and eggs while boosting sales.

Country Club Sold in Lake County for 18000

The Lake County Country Club, established in 1923, was sold to Detroit businessman Paul Eghigan for about 18000. The 157 acre property includes the clubhouse and nine open holes of the 18 hole course. Bonds held by First State Bank Eustis were in default. Eghigan plans wartime operation and postwar additions such as a riding academy and resort facilities.

The United Spanish War Veterans of Florida elected officers for 1943 44 during a Mount Dora encampment. Commander is Charles O Foster of Panama City with a slate including M S Cook Lake land as senior vice commander and John Love Jacksonville as junior vice commander. Auxiliary officers include President Eulalia Della of Miami and secretary Inez Ritchie of Miami, among others.

Notes About Our Men In Service At Brandon High School

Three Mount Dora born brothers, sons of W. F. Harding, are serving in the armed forces. Ronald W. Harding, .22, aviation machinist mate second class, Navy for three years, was at Pearl Harbor during the attack. Cpl. Pierce W. Harding, 23, Army, in North Africa, wrote that the climate here is similar to Florida. The Harding family once owned the Princess Theatre and now reside near Tampa.
