Ten Troops Join Boy Scout Camporee at Umatilla

About 142 Scouts and Scouters from ten Lake County troops took part in the Annual District Camporee at Umatilla May 4 and 5. The event featured camping skills demonstrations, camp setup, cooking, and drills directed by Camporee staff and district officials.

Rep. Bob Sikes, on the House Military Affairs Committee, pushed for harsher treatment of German prisoners of war in the United States. Brig. Gen. B. M. Noted archaeologist Dr James Edgar Banks dies at Eustis home

Dr James Edgar Banks aged 79 dies after illness at his Eustis area home. Native of Sunderland Massachusetts a Harvard graduate he served as American consul at Bagdad and secretary to the American minister to Turkey. He excavated Bismya in 1903 for the University of Chicago and found an alabaster statue of King David. He taught at Chicago Toledo and Pennsylvania and authored many works. Private services set for May 11 at 11 am conducted by Dr Arthur Peabody Pratt.
