Vladimer Protopopov, a Mount Dora displaced person, faces a May 15 deadline to pass the beginner driver exam or pay a $25 fine. Arrested for no license, he struggles with English, aided by friends and a court appearance before Mayor Lou Heaton who pauses $15 of the fine if he finds a language workaround.
Police will begin a crackdown on students driving to school with restricted licenses within days. In police court, Mayor Lou L. Heaton ordered a warning to Prof D. D. Roseborough before enforcement to avoid juvenile court for students.
Lake County school board in Tavares faces protest over the Platt case as teachers including Mount Dora High’s Conway skip tonight’s meeting. Conway says he will not attend without a public hearing, though he expected questions on board policy related to his dismissal.
Lake county schools begin compiling data on every school age child using file cards at the superintendent’s office. Superintendent C A Vaughn Jr says the census will include name birth date birth place parents occupation and school transfer details. Cards will aid organizations such as School Welfare armed forces colleges and prospective employers.

Mayor Lou L Heaton notes a warrant issued following patrol testimony of alleged speeding and a stop at a stop street. Other incidents include a warning to a wife stopped for speeding and a roundup of several fines for traffic violations.
The Garden Club votes to beautify the Community building by adding azaleas and shrubs. Members will decide Monday evening on a $100 project cost at the Community building. President Marion Brinker hosted the meeting. speaker L S Maxwell, entomologist from Tampa, addressed the group.
In Plant City a driver faces 25 dollars for an improper license. In Eustis Stewart C. Baker pays 15 dollars for offenses. In Orlando Mark Lacy is fined 25 dollars for no passing zone. James Glover Willie D. White and Hacket sr. are cited for speeding.
