The Mount Dora city council discusses renewing its insurance package limited to Lake County agents within 20 miles of Mount Dora. The package covers liability public injury fire theft and other features with some medical and collision elements.
A group of 28 second graders from Roseborough Elementary toured Mount Dora City Jail with Police Chief J. T. Bud Huett as part of a safety unit. The visit followed a community safety program and the distribution of an Official Safety Manual to each student. Local sponsors include Mount Dora Growers Co-Op, Mount Dora Insurer's Board, several realty and insurance firms, a funeral home, Triangle Oil, a builders supply, a service station, and law firm Roy Christopher, among others.
Doreen Geddes, a 1965 Mount Dora High School graduate, received magna cum laude at Lake-Sumter Junior College commencement in Leesburg High School auditorium. She also earned a Southern Scholarship and Research Foundation Award to Florida State University, one of 30 statewide recipients, and was to join FSU as part of a home-based scholars program.
The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council was asked to study the region's medical hospital and home health services at its Titusville meeting. J. K. Galloway of Winter Park Memorial Hospital presented the request, directing the committee to draft a proposal and seek funding sources. Lake County representatives include Alfred W. Rehbaum Jr., Dewey Livingston, and Max E. Wettstein. The meeting also reviewed proposed legislation allowing counties to form non profit corporations with county commissioners as boards of directors for joint public concerns.
Mrs. S. Taylor 74, of Umatilla and Mount Dora, sister of Mrs. Christopher Withoven, died Tuesday after four years in Umatilla. Survived by another sister Mrs. Floyd L Hannell of Caledonia and several nieces and nephews. Funeral at 3 p.m. Friday at Umatilla Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Sam Franklin. Interment in Umatilla Cemetery. Rehbaum Harden Funeral Home Mount Dora in charge.
Jack Morgan and George J White Jr of Mount Dora were elected to the Lake County Fair and Flower Show board at the annual meeting in Tavares. Charles Norris of Eustis was chosen president as plans begin for the 47th County Fair and 20th Flower Show to be held March 18 23 1968 at the new site.
Umatilla High School’s The Ugly Duckling won first place at the IceHouse Play Festival held last weekend in Mount Dora. Carver Heights High School placed runner up with The Death of the Hired Man. A silver loving cup was awarded to Umatilla and will be kept until next year’s event.
A Mount Dora mother with nine children from two months to ten years old seeks aid after hospital discharge. With three bare rooms and $85 monthly welfare, the family needs clothing, food, beds, a stove, and larger housing. The King's Daughters thrift shop and Mrs J O Harris invite donations to keep the family together.
Parents urged to attend a Roseborough Elementary Cafetorium meeting at 8 p.m. Thursday May 4. The session led by educators including Ronald Aldrich Eudell Sutley and Fred Sanwald will explain the Florida Education Association Quality Plan now before the legislature.
Mount Dora Jaycees held a junior tennis tournament with 33 participants across eight age groups. Winners included Richard Brelsford in 16-17 boys and Jane Coleman in 16-17 girls, with runners-up listed for each division. Awards will be given after the Jr Golf event May 20.
Mount Dora High School plans a boys track meet in Clermont on Saturday May 6 and the annual Junior Senior Prom set for Saturday May 20 at the American Legion. The events appear on the near term school calendar.
Mount Dora Golf Association plans a new $65,000 clubhouse on the existing site with colonial design. Matsche Construction Co. of Eustis receives the contract. Ground-breaking set for July 1 with completion by October 1, 1967. The facility will include a pro shop lounge and clubrooms, and storage for electric golf carts. No dining room is planned. barbecues will be hosted there.
Vera J. Reaves co owner of the De Cor Delite Shop in Mount Dora died Thursday April 27 at age 47 of Bassville Park She was born in Palatka and lived in the Tavares area eight years She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church Pilot Club of Eustis and Women’s Professional Bowling Association of Eustis She is survived by husband George Reaves three daughters three stepsons mother two brothers one sister seven grandchildren and four step grandchildren Funeral services were held Saturday at Tavares Baptist Church with local services and interment at Palatka Steverson Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements
Mount Dora High Swim Team hosted Eustis Tuesday afternoon. Girls dominated with top finishes in the 200 yard medley relay 100 yard fly and 400 yard free relay led by Cox Ormesher and Rainey. Boys claimed a lone first from T Bowman in the 50 free with several second and third places across events. Mount Dora heads to Deland Uma tila next Friday for another meet.
Mount Dora issued three building permits totaling 26900 dollars in April, as reported by City Building Inspector John Cain. The permits helped lift Lake County’s April building activity to over one million dollars.
Robert G. Alderman was named General Manager of Golden Triangle Builders Supply Co. Inc after the death of Robert L. Flint. Alderman, formerly assistant manager, is son of R. S. Alderman of Sylvan Shores, and resides at 250 Eighth Ave Mount Dora with wife Wendy and children Scott and Shaunn. He is a Mount Dora High School graduate and UF alum.
Mobile X ray service for Lake County residents runs May 22 23 through the Central Florida Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association. The unit will be at Tavares Court House east side May 22 10 1 and 2 4 p m and at Palm Plaza Leesburg May 23 10 1 and 2 4 p m. The program is funded by the Christmas Seal campaign in five counties and coordinated with the County Health Department.
