Florida Industries Grow Across State in 1927
The year 1927 saw two new Florida industries start up in Tampa and Clewiston, with large payrolls and export potential. The Florida Portland Cement plant began production in October 1927 on the Ybor Estuary, sourcing materials from Hernando county, while Southland Sugar proceeds toward a December 1928 milestone producing cane from custard apple muck land on the Okeechobee rim. Additional advances include expanded hardwood mills, shifted turpentine cutting methods, a major Ocklocknee River hydro site near Jackson Bluff, and growing odd industries such as golf ball and toy making, plus ongoing phosphate research and electro chemical plans.
