The 1946 Red Cross drive for Mount Dora and surrounding Lake County areas closes this week with a quota of 2400 and total contributions of 3114.52 dollars, an oversubscription of nearly 30 percent. Top donors include Winn-Lovett Grocery Co 25 Mount Dora Woman's Club 25 Mr and Mrs A C Johnson 25 Mrs Etta Austin McDonald 25 Mount Dora Kiwanis Club 15 Mr and Mrs Leon B Cheek 10 and Ruth Butts 0.22.
Spessard L. Holland, a leading United States Senate hopeful, will visit Lake County on Wednesday April 3. He will address a countywide rally at Ferran Park in Eustis at 8 PM after arriving in the afternoon. Holland last carried Lake County in 1940 and is touring the state before the primary.
Misinformation about dates circulated but Dr. Albritton will inoculate dogs for rabies at the rear of Mount Dora city hall this Friday March 29 from 2 to 6 p m. It is urged all dog owners not yet inoculated to attend. After this time unvaccinated dogs will be destroyed by police.
The Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox will play a doubleheader at Venetian Gardens ball park in Leesburg. On Wednesday April 8, Lee Hanover announces the event as the granddad of baseball in Leesburg. The party includes 100 players and 12 newspaper sports writers. games are the first stop after winter training.
Mount Dora Legion plans to send a delegation to the 7th meeting in Sanford on Sunday March 31 to elect officers for the national convention Two veterans James M Dick and James C Dumas are honored Dick served USN June 1943 to Nov 22 1945 with ships and campaigns including American Theater Asiatic Pacific and Victory Ribbons Dumas entered Army Nov 5 1941 and discharged Nov 12 1945 as Staff Sergeant with twenty months overseas in Central Pacific He works at Mount Dora pharmacy and Story Brothers grocery The post also plans a dance April 27 at Lake County Country Club with details to be finalized at next Monday’s meeting
The Grand View Hotel hosted a Wednesday bingo night that drew prize winners including Mr. L. A. Slatmeyer who claimed the big prize on the final game. Attendees and visitors from Harbor Springs Mich Columbus Ohio and Vero Beach Florida were noted among the guests and relatives.

Leetoss High School senior class presents a three act comedy A Case Springtime about three American families. Two showings, matinee at 1 10 p m and evening at 8 00 p m, in the high school auditorium.
The Baptist Church launches a Sunday program with morning and evening services led by Sutley and Perley Safford and opens a revival series running nightly at 7 30 pm until April 14. Preacher Pat Wimberly is described as a youthful Florida evangelist and Jimmy Haskins directs music with his wife assisting. No collections will be taken.
Two worship services are planned at First Methodist Church. Morning worship at 11 will feature Rev. George Gibson continuing a series on The Gospel of the Cross with The Cross and Faith. Evening worship at 7:30 will be informal with a gospel service and sermon The One Thing Need. Sunday School meets at 9:45 for all ages, Youth Fellowship at 6:30, and the School for Missions meets Wednesday at 7:45 in the Parish House. All services open to the public.

Town and Highway Department announce the postwar road project to rebuild Highway 441 through Mount Dora. A contract for the work is to be let today. The corridor runs from the Highland Street overpass to West Fifth Avenue, addressing the rough Fifth Avenue hill.

Lions Club hosts Ladies Night with performers from the Negro vocational school at Eustis. Guests last week included the conference and district champion girls basketball team and coach Miss LaNell Vandiver. Lion Cecil Bowie quoted the Lions Code of Ethics as Captain Dugan and Manager Eckholdt were introduced. Friday April 12 at noon the club meets Kiwanis and the Florida Waterway Congress. reservations via Lion Jacobsen to Lehmann are needed for the luncheon replacing the evening meeting.
Tavares continues in the Lake Orange League with a Sunday 3 30 p m game against Mount Dora. Last Sunday the team elected W A Vincent as manager. In the Eustis game every player had a hit with Lane 4 for 4 and several players contributing multi hit efforts. The Mount Dora Baseball Association thanks local businesses and individuals for uniforms and equipment funding and invites additional donations to Drake for team support.
Warren L Story Jr is promoted to corporal in an MP company at Fort McPherson GA. Paul C Mosteller ARM 2c Naval Reserve is honorably discharged March 22 in Jacksonville and returns home. Captain William B Lawrence Jr of Mount Dora FL is transferred to Miami Air Technical Service Command as assistant chief of the maintenance division, aiding western Pacific campaigns including Iwo Jima. He escorts B 29s and flies strafing missions. at his new post he directs mechanical repairs for Army Air Forces flight condition.
The Pythian Sisters plan a food sale on Saturday March 30 in L R Tremain's office opening at 9 a m. Home cooked foods will be offered and patrons are invited.
Emmet of Milwaukee and Chicago officials joined Mount Dora players for a three day event in March. Hartley and Richardson staged a new style bowl trial and Hartley lost 3 to 13. Breckenridge defeated Grant 15 to 12 in the singles final with 70 spectators watching.
Thomas H. Cooley of Mount Dora was elected chairman of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce highway committee at the March 22 meeting in Tavares. Chester B. Treadway of Tavares named vice chairman. Speakers included Frank E. Owens, L. D. Edge, G. G. Ware, and Senator Harry P. Johnson. Members from District Four include Tom Cooley and J. E. Fortner.
Andrew L Laurie MD announces opening of offices for general medicine and surgery at 140 Fourth Avenue East in the former Gerald Richardson space. Laurie a World War II veteran and former major in the Medical Corps. graduate of George Washington School of Medicine.
The Eustis Kiwanis Club joined Mount Dora for an inter-club meeting with over 100 attendees. Rev. Kenneth Rogers spoke on The World of Tomorrow stressing United Nations unity and world peace as District Governor Gordon T. Butler plans to preside at today’s program.
Visitors to Ashley Galleries at 833 Tenth Avenue encounter a Porch Gallery display of oriental paintings and ceramics led by an 18th century Persian bridal mirror with a rare best craftsmanship ere shawl background valued at 3000 dollars. The main gallery houses paintings mezzotints lustres bric a brac plus an 18th century Italian table and a large carved mirror frame with original glass. A Vogt portrait from post war Vienna and Arizona Needles at Sunset artwork draw viewer attention amid French toiles du Jouy and ruby glass decanters.
Mount Dora Cub Pack No 19 held a Monday session at Gilbert Park with 26 cubs and 27 parents present. Bud Merker and Perley Safford led ceremonies awarding badges including the Webeloes to Paul Hopkins. Afterward mothers organized games and a pot luck supper complimenting Claude Fralick for food preparation.

Miss Elvira Lodor led questions. guests asked many pertinent questions. An April 3 luncheon and meeting at Lakeside Inn was announced. Reservations due by March 30.
Dr and Mrs Duncan Campbell sold their winter home at 312 Ninth Avenue West to J H Voss, a longtime winter resident. The GateLius property, a half block on Ninth and along McDonald to Tenth, includes a large frame house, laundry, and chauffeur's garage. The Campbells and Mrs Gutelius will stay until returning to Canada in spring. They sold due to size and plan to move to a smaller lot later when feasible.
Mr and Mrs Charles Peterman of Cleveland Ohio purchased a Mount Dora home through L C Tremain after first visiting Lake County in 1938. They sold their trailer in Ohio and moved into the Mount Dora house last week amid strong local demand. Tremain notes over 150000 dollars of Mount Dora property sold in the past eighteen months with sixty houses under construction.
