Hospital Tag Day Raises Over Two Hundred Dollars

The Hospital Tag Day on February 27 sponsored by the Hospital Committee of the Woman's Club raised 203 dollars to continue payments on the operating table at Lake County Medical Center. Total contributions last year were 232.50 with a first payment. this year’s gift brings the balance to just over 300 dollars, with further donations welcomed to Mrs H T Fenn.

Deadline Near for Lake County Homestead Exemptions

Tax Assessor J. Philip Doss warns Lake County homeowners to file or reapply for homestead exemptions before the April 1 deadline. A 1936 roll showed about 2,500 exemptions, with some 200 former 1935 applicants not reapplying. Reapplication forms, mailed on pink paper to 1936 recipients, must be signed and returned.

Pageant to depict Florida citrus history at Ocala jubilee

The Florida Horticultural Society plans a ten episode pageant on April 13 to 15 in Ocala portraying citrus history from 1579 to today. The event, directed by J. J. Gerig with a script by Mrs. Rolland Dean, will be staged at Silver Springs in a wooded park with 4000 seats.

Craft Day At Home Demonstration Club In Tavares

Five Lake County Soil Program Meetings Set for March 15–17

Lake County will hold five community meetings starting March 15 to plan the 1937 Soil Conservation program. Farmers from Groveland Mascotte Bay Lake Clermont Montverde Leesburg Eustis and surrounding sections will elect community committeemen and learn 1937 procedures. About 2,000 properties filed 1936 worksheets totaling roughly 45 000 in payments. 500 checks have been issued with more to follow.

County Seat Fight Early Event Of Lake Co. History

Apropos of the semi centennial of the founding of Lake County pioneer H A Harrold recalls the hot contest for the county seat after Lake County formed from Orange and Sumter. Leesburg and Tavares vied, with Tavares favored by St Clair Abrams and Victoria voting for the tie breaking precinct. Construction followed after Tavares was chosen, and the 1889 transfer of the building.

Mount Dora Winter Regatta Race Three Report

The Mount Dora Winter Regatta on March 6 featured windjammers racing in strong west winds with Star, Spray and Jinx as top finishers. Spray led at the first buoy but Jinx seized a clear early lead after a five minute luffing duel, with Spray winning the day and Jinx consistently taking second in each race. Prizes will be awarded after the fourth race on March 13, with another power boat handicap race planned for the same time.

Lake County Purchases Refunding Bonds for Savings

The Lake County Board of Commissioners bought $128,500 in road and bridge district and county wide refunding bonds below par. In eighteen months total retirements reach $279,000 with interest savings. County Attorney J. W. Hunter estimates retirement will save about $2,000,000.
