David Bowen was elected president of the City Council after Gordon Conboy resigned. Thomas Houser was chosen vice president. The council rejected a third reading to annex Huskey Development on Hwy 441 until costs are shared, with sewerage and power split 50 50. Sewer contracts were awarded to Cambron Co. and Bumby and Stimpson. demolition of the old City Hall was awarded to James E. Brown of Mount Dora with demolition to begin immediately and finish in 30 days. The four City Hall columns and utility equipment will be salvaged.

City council approved first reading of a 30 year franchise with Florida Gas Utilities Co. to supply Mount Dora with gas. The deal yields 6 percent of gross sales minus taxes, with a one time 3 percent option, and option to buy the system after 10 or 20 years. Estimated additional city revenue near $3000.

43 Artists Exhibit At Mount Dora Art League Show
The 37th Annual Indoor Art Show sponsored by the Mount Dora Art League drew 175 visitors who cast votes on 106 paintings from 43 exhibitors. Ties crowned first place for Margaret Tietjen's Seascape and Mildred Leache's Old Lisbon, with second place shared by Bertha Dunlap Pasture and Laura Sargent Roses, and a three way tie for third among Eleanor Little Natures Looking Glass Edna Clark Snow Scene and M F Liebacht Ocean Beach Florida. Formal Opening Sunday of New Mount Dora Motor Lodge
Mount Dora celebrated the grand opening of the new Mount Dora Motor Lodge on Highway 441 west of Donnelly Street with over 1500 attendees. Owners Mr and Mrs C R Wright led the ceremony with dignitaries including Mayor Jesse D Willmott. the facility offers 12 air conditioned rooms, a central pool, a coffee shop, and a restaurant with breakfast lunch and dinner service.
