Lions Club Banquet Highlights Service Tenets and Milestones

Mount Dora Lions Club heard Earl Ziebarth of the Lions Foundation of the Blind discuss Lionism as service at the June 24 banquet at the American Legion Hall. He noted Lions Clubs worldwide reach 800,000 members in 20,000 clubs with 500,000 annual projects and marked Lions International's 50th anniversary. Pins were awarded for attendance. funds and projects were announced, including $1500 for the Florida Council of Lions Foundations for the Blind and support for a diabetic camp.

Gala 4th Planned By Mount Dora Little League

Mount Dora Little League schedules a July 4 double header at Jaycee Park with Kiwanis against Lions and Rotary against American Legion. Dinner served on the grounds costs 1 dollar per person and reservations are urged by July 1. If rain occurs, dinner moves to the American Legion Hall at 7 pm.

Boat Registration Deadline June 30

Conservation Director Randolph Hodges reminded owners of pleasure boats that the deadline for renewing the registration of their craft is June 30, 1967. Boat owners must re register their boats with the county tax collector before this date. June 30th is also the deadline for renewal of wholesale and retail seafood dealers licenses and commercial boat licenses. These licenses are obtained from the License Department of the Florida Board of Conservation, 107 West Gaines Street, Tallahassee, Fla. 32304.

Bells On Independence Day Observed In Mount Dora

Mount Dora citizens are urged to join Bells on Independence Day sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and American Legion Post No 35. Bells in all 50 states will ring at 2 p.m. July 4 for about four minutes, as proclaimed by Mayor Willmott on June 26 1967 to show patriotic spirit.

Drivers License Fees Up July 1st

Colonel H. N. Kirkman director of the Department of Public Safety reminded Floridians that starting Monday July 3 driver’s license examination fees rise from $1 to $3 for regular applicants and from $5 to $15 for suspended or revoked privileges. The changes follow a 1967 law increasing all driver license examination fees effective July 1.

Henry W. Link Jr and his wife Mary Anne Brotherson have moved back to Mount Dora after nearly a decade in Rochester New York. Hank, a 1957 Mount Dora High School graduate, studied at The Citadel and worked for General Motors before returning to Florida to print at Link Stationery and Printing Co. in Belle Ayre Estates.

Valerie Johnson known as Val ensured the Mount Dora Topic would stay local after selling to a group of local businessmen following her husband Mack Johnson’s 1963 death. Rotary Goals Outlined By Brandt At Annual Installation Luncheon

Members of the Rotary Club of Mount Dora gathered for the Installation of Officers luncheon at the Community Building. Dr. James K. Brandt, 1966-67 President, reviewed the year and four new members Henry W. Link Jr. R. Bruce Graham Harlan C. Amsden and E. E. Brown joined. The club funded a Permanent Scholarship and Research Foundation at Florida State University with $2500 payable over five years.
