Two week program starts Monday June 22 at 9 oclock with sessions 9 to 1130 each morning. Open free to boys and girls aged 5 to 17. Church invites all to attend and register Saturday at 4. Band members and Sunday school workers will tour town to advertise. Ladies will serve drinks afterward.

Col Lester Named Director For Gas Rationing

Col C E Lester of Eustis, commander of the Citizens Defense Corps, is Lake County Registration Director for the new gasoline rationing program. Registration will begin in July and last six days. George J Dykes will custody supplies. local councils appoint chairs and deputies. Only two books, A for autos and D for motorcycles, will be issued. other books require forms mailed to local ration offices. Car owners may need Federal automobile use stamps to obtain gasoline books.

Nurses Aid Class to Start Soon at Lake County Center

The Red Cross Nurses' Aid Class will begin June 29 at Lake County Medical Center in Eustis. Applications must be in to the Lake County Red Cross Chapter office in Leesburg by June 22, with further notice to follow.

Mount Dora and Eustis Lions clubs held a joint installation at the Eustis Gun Club with about sixty guests. District Governor D R Matthews installed the new officers and urged Lions to fully support wartime duties as 4200 International clubs strive to aid the United Nations. Speakers praised Lions and Lionesses including a humorous performance by Mount Dora pianist Lioness Rehbaum and a lively reading by Mrs. Travis Slayden.

Rubber Salvage Drives Gas Rationing Effort in State

Service station operators statewide mobilize in a rubber salvage campaign from June 15 to June 30 under President Roosevelt. Mount Dora stations solicit scrap rubber from tires, soles, belts, gloves, caps, and more, with oil companies funding collection and the Rubber Reserve Company purchasing at $25 per ton. Proceeds go to USO, Army Relief, Navy Relief, and Red Cross. citizens may arrange pickup through Mrs. R W Dickson or city hall.

Toby Green reports from Australia that the country resembles Florida in heat and color with parrots and kangaroos observed. He is in a hospital with a special diet but feels well and expects release soon. The facility uses an old race track as hospital space with former stables and tents. Nurses are kind and the men get along, though they joke about hot tea. Toby is now a corporal with 2nd Class Air Mechanic rating.

Mount Dora youths begin aviation cadet training at Maxwell Field

Two Mount Dora men Roy Christopher and William Badger Lawrence Jr. have enrolled as aviation cadets in the Army Air Force Pre Flight School for Pilots at Maxwell Field Alabama. They will receive military physical and academic training to prepare them to fly fighter planes. Christopher attended the University of Florida earning AA BSBA and LLB degrees and was a Sigma Chi member active in college baseball.

Louthans buy George Thompson home in Mount Dora

Mr and Mrs William B Louthan of East Liverpool Ohio and Mount Dora have purchased the late George Thompsons winter home at Fifth avenue and McDonald Street. They plan renovations and landscaping and will occupy the Mt Dora residence as their winter retreat after a trip on the Silver Meteor. They were in a train wreck near Kittrell North Carolina but unharmed. The Louthans frequently visit Mount Dora and will move in after fall renovations.

Seventy Lake County men were inducted at the Lake County Court House before departing for Camp Blanding.
