Mount Dora High School Senior Awards Recognize Students
Mount Dora High School held its Senior Awards Assembly in the Mount Dora Community Building. More than 70 scholastic, service and sports honors were presented by staff, administrators, local citizens, and student selections, with recipients including Martha DeWolf, Valeah Gary, and Kim Brandt among others. In Mount Dora 178 seniors graduate this week with 148 from Mount Dora High School and 30 from Christian Home and Bible School. The Bible School ceremony occurred Tuesday at Cecil McGeehee Memorial Field House with John Hosch as speaker. The High School exercises follow Thursday at 8 p.m. in the same building with Bill Fowler leading the pledge, Martha DeWolf delivering the valedictory, and Richard Jelsma Kathe Sweeney as co salutatorians. Diplomas are to be conferred by Lake County School Board member Buster Williams. Seats are limited and open to the public.

James Warren Simpson, the town's first white child born in Mount Dora, marked his 96th birthday May 31 with a luncheon at Turner's Restaurant.
