Community Church closes for season
Memorial Day service marked the closing of the Community Church for the summer. Services resume the first Sunday in October. Dr. and Mrs. Richards left by train for Lewisburg, Pa., to visit their son and family while he recovers from illness that kept him from the pulpit in late May. They left Mount Dora undecided whether to spend the summer with their son or later at their Bridgton Maine home.

Stuart Sadler to Graduate at Annapolis
Stuart Tees Sadler is named among about 760 midshipmen in the accelerated Class of 1943 to graduate June 9 at the United States Naval Academy Annapolis Md. Fire Rips Mount Dora Woman's Home Upon Grandview Street
Annie Terrentine, a longtime Mount Dora resident, lost her home and most belongings after a fire started by a defective flue in the kitchen stove. The blaze left the house uninhabitable and she awaits funds for surgery in Philadelphia to address a jaw condition. A relief fund has been opened with a $10 gift and further donations are urged at The Topic office.

C Fred Ward of Winter Park states the Mount Dora to Plymouth section of U S 441 will rank among the nation s best road projects. The cement highway eight inches thick and 26 feet wide costs 725000 to 750000 with final bids around 653000 plus engineering costs. Grading by Faulk and Coleman is underway. substantial supplies and machinery are on site as the project nears completion in about six months. The work is funded equally by the State and federal government, with a temporary Mount Dora office opened for the project.
