The Lake County War Finance Committee congratulates chairmen and communities for submitting sales reports totaling $614000 to $1,257000 with adjustments reflecting unclaimed sales. The notes credit many busy people for an amazing fundraising effort.
The War Production Board urges salvage of tin cans to supply 500 million cans yearly for ammunition boxes and food protection. The notice directs readers to deliver cans to the Tin Can Bin at Standard Station in Orlando and contact the Salvage Office, Army Headquarters, for pickup.
Congressman Hendricks announces a district swing from July 29 to August 4 to attend to constituent business. He will be based at the Angebilt Hotel in Orlando and will meet with people there by appointment.
A local unit will receive honors as a worthy organization with more details promised next week. The event date is set for August 2 and two high ranking officers will visit Mount Dora for the occasion.
Admiral Waesche awards the United Coast Guard Security Shield of Honor to the temporary reserve unit of Mount Dora Florida for valued port security contributions. The note commends their loyalty and efficiency aiding the war effort and releasing military personnel for sea duty.

Lt Col Chester C Holloway of Clermont received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service against the enemy at Cebu. As battalion commander of the 246th Field Artillery he landed with his leading battery and oversaw action destroying fortified positions. He is the son of Mr and Mrs C C Holloway of Clermont, editor of the Florida Poultryman and Stockman.
Mr and Mrs Carl W Seaby purchased the Olds home on East Tenth Avenue and plan permanent residency in Mount Dora. Their son in service bought a lot at Baker and Seventh and will build when possible. A Lee French represented buyers and Quixley Realty represented sellers. Quixley also sold the D Fletcher Crane house at Eleventh and Gorham.
Florida hunters face a shortened season for 1945 46 announced by the state game and fresh water fish commission. The wild turkey season is 46 days shorter and South Florida quails and squirrels face a 15 day short season. The commission has removed last season’s bag limit of 200.
Union officials representing Florida Power Corporation employees in St. Petersburg Inglis Avon Park and Winter Park will seek a strike vote under the Smith Connally War Labor Disputes Act after four contract items remain unresolved. The company favors submitting the dispute to the War Labor Board but unions insist on the strike vote after a 30 day cooling off period supervised by the National Labor Relations Board.
The last in a series on God and the Fact of Suffering will be delivered Sunday at eleven by Rev. George Gibson. He will speak on The Cross of Victory. Mrs. C M Brown directs music. Youth Fellowship meets 6 30 pm led by Mr George Sims Sr. Delegates Herbert Trenham and Adrianne Norton attend the Orlando District Intermediate Young People's Camp at Camp Wewa starting Monday.

Book Five will cover all food and shoe rations and the new A gasoline book begins December 22 with stamps A18. Teachers and volunteers are praised for distributing four books since May 4, 1942.

Odell Redd 3-c arrived home for a few days before heading to the South Pacific after 20 months in the European Theatre. He wears ribbons for American, North African, European, and Asiatic areas and a Normandy Beachhead commendation. John W. Hogsett 3-c will visit Texas then return home to Mount Dora. Ossie G. Daniel USNR, a Mount Dora High School graduate, stationed in Bronx and linked to Waves. Others include Pvt. Joe Dasher awaiting orders, S-Sgt. Richard Widmer on furlough, Sgt. Wm. Conliffe departing for Alaska, and W. J. Pearson serving in the Pacific and Philippines.
