Motorcade Visits Florida Humus Plant in Zellwood

The Orange County Chamber of Commerce tour to Leesburg for the Watermelon Festival included a visit to Florida Humus Company in Zellwood. Manager M H Guise led the party through the 15 acre plant as it ships five thousand tons of peat humus to the southeast. souvenirs and a product leaflet were handed out.

Hazelwood Grandson Earns Milwaukee Legal Post

Clark J. Hazelwood of Milwaukee Wisconsin has been named to the office of second assistant corporation counsel by the district attorney. A 34 year old University of Wisconsin law graduate and Phi Beta Kappa member he declined a Rhodes scholarship. He is secretary of a major Milwaukee business men's association and was second on the eligibility list. The post carries a minimum salary of 2400 dollars.

Veterans of Foreign Wars to Meet in Tavares Town Hall

High Water Relief Up To Government

The Citizens' Executive Committee for high water relief submits to Chairman Sadsler a plan urging the Government to take control of water drainage. It calls for maintaining maximum Moss Bluff dam flow, cleaning canals and rivers, and seeking a drainage control system for Ocklawaha Withlacoochee. It also urges Congress to amend navigation laws to empower government engineers to manage upper basin flows during extreme floods. The memo notes improved lake levels due to weather and dam flow but warns the wet season approaches.

A Beaver Dam Wisconsin Kiwanis gathering viewed moving pictures of Florida scenes including Mount Dora and vicinity. Starkweather and wife of Beaver Dam toured Cuba and Florida after the Kiwanis International convention and shared film from Mount Dora Trimble Park and Howey-in-the-Hills.

Kiwanis Luncheon Draws Few Members

Attendance was light at the Kiwanis meeting as many members attended the Leesburg Watermelon Festival or were away. George Keller staged an accident acrobatic stunt, and a resolutions committee was appointed to address the death of charter member Fred MacDowell. O. D. The Mount Dora Fourth of July program showcased a parade led by the Clermont Band, with Legion posts, veterans, Scouts, and floats. Former Florida Governor John W. Martin delivered the Independence Day address as the World War dead memorial was dedicated by Mrs. Arthur Orton and Boy Scouts.

The Central Relief Committee in Mount Dora elected its officers: chairman D. H. Bishop secretary Mrs Harold Overhiser treasurer Geo J White. An executive committee of five includes the officers and Mrs George Coffin and Mr A J Waltz. The group coordinates charity work with local welfare outfits and acts in emergencies. Each organization contributes to the relief treasury.
