Cathy Irene Beck of Mount Dora plans to enroll at David Lipscomb College Nashville for the fall quarter majoring in elementary education. Michael A. Mount Dora July Meetings Preview Local Groups
The Mount Dora area hosts multiple July gatherings. The Retired Citizens Association meets July 7 at 1 p.m. in the Mount Dora Community Building with a luncheon and social hour. WWII veterans Barracks 3227 and Ladies Auxiliary meet July 12 at 2 p.m. in the Bank of Mount Dora lounge, then hold a social hour with refreshments. The Monday Social Club resumes July 10, 17, and 24 after a holiday break, with the Community Building closing July 31 for vacations. The Mount Dora Men's Garden Club meets July 10 at 8 p.m. at the Community Building with a talk by Extension Agent Andy Rose on compost, door prizes and a social hour. Members face re-election after three years. The Academy, a major medical group, emphasizes continuing medical education for members.

Orange County Horse Show and Shuffleboard Tourney Planned
The Orange County Sheriff's Mounted Posse will host a horse show at Clarcona Horseman's Park near Apopka with English and Western events in 22 classes beginning at noon on July Q. Planning for the sixth annual countywide shuffleboard tournament proceeds for mid November at Tavares courts. Clarence E. Harden sponsors the events with Elmore Reynolds predicting record prizes and coffee and doughnuts for players. Richard A. Whittington of Mount Dora earns President's Honor Roll honors at the University of Florida for spring quarter with straight A's.

The Lakes & Hills African Violet Society is founded at Mrs. J A W Richardson’s Lake Shore Drive home in Lake County. Officers elected to be installed in October include President Mrs J A W Richardson, Vice President Mrs Raymond V Todd, Recording Secretary Mrs Palmer N Pigot, and Corresponding Secretary Mrs Julio Valbuena. The group meets monthly to study African violet culture, promote better plants, and provide social interaction, and will affiliate with the African Violet Society of America.
