County Camps Invest $2,601,000 for 27,030 Youths Served
The Lake County Chamber of Commerce reports an overall $2,601,000 investment in eight youth camps for 1961. Camps include Camp Lanoche, Methodist Youth Camp, Camp McQuarrie, Montverde School, Howey Academy, Camp Ocala, Church of God near Tavares, and Camp Emmanual near Groveland. combined, they serve about 27,030 people through summer and year round programs, with detailed dates and capacities for each site.

Summer Recreational Swimming Program Draws Large Attendance
The summer program averages about 1100 attendees weekly with 93 beginners 27 advanced beginners 40 intermediates 38 swimmers 20 adults and 53 A. A. U. Participants include instructors Dan Spear Ed Hansel Fred Sanwald Jim Jackson and student Mary Sadler with volunteers Mike Stewart Sanday Grantham Karen Ober Peggy Bowie Jeanette Reed Alice Toy Nancy Ham Barbara Ormesher Karen Cole and Penny Rector. The pool operates daily with a schedule of morning and afternoon sessions including A. A. U. practice and recreational swimming across weekdays Saturdays and Sundays and closes during electrical disturbances.

Lower Freight Rates for Florida via Piggyback Transport Plan
Dr. Robert W. Bradbury of the University of Florida says Florida could see cheaper goods as freight rates drop through piggyback shipping. The plan in use, Plan II, puts railroad control with door to door options and may cut Florida to New Jersey trailer costs by about $50 per load. About 25 000 people visited the Florida agricultural showcase at Rockefeller Center last month.
