Auto tag renewal cycle shifts to birthmonth system
Lake County residents face the final year of lengthy July and August tag lines as the new birthmonth registration plan, approved after years of urging, begins. The statewide rollout began in 1975 with a 50 day renewal window and data collection to prepare 1976 pre registration notices for 67 county tax offices. Starting 1977, re registrations shift to June for certain vehicle categories.

Mt Plymouth Volunteer Fire Company joins Independence weekend events with a 200 year history wagon and costumed marchers. They march in Sorrento on July 8 at 10 a.m. and host a Sunday July 9 celebration at Hendrix Feed Store with games contests bicentennial costume greased pig spoon and potato contests and a $2.25 adult donation.

Mount Dora considers second floor for police station
Mount Dora police chief Stephen J. Simon says adding a second floor to the existing cell block is feasible per the original architects Michaels Stiggins Inc of Orlando. The plan arose during the June 15 city council meeting after Councilman Gordon Dake questioned a privately mounted fund drive led by Mount Dora Police Improvement Fund Inc. Detective Ed Edwards said crowding due to a growing force necessitates expansion. Dake also objected to brochure circulation without council consultation.

Frank W. Clifton Jr assumed the Mount Dora City Clerk role on Monday. Former Leesburg purchasing agent aged 29, he moves with wife Roberta and daughter Karel Ann over the Fourth of July weekend to begin acquainting himself with city recordkeeping and plan budgeting for the next fiscal year. Clifton, born in Miami, holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of South Florida and has done financial management coursework.
