Church marks 90th anniversary in Mount Dora
The Community Congregational Church of Mount Dora concluded a 90th anniversary observance with a commemorative worship service and afternoon reception. December included an anniversary dinner. The church began in a local schoolhouse with nine charter members.

Fire damages bedroom in Mount Dora home of Castle family
A fire Monday morning at 826 Wedgewood Dr in Mount Dora badly damaged a bedroom after a candle toppled igniting a tablecloth. James E Castle and wife were away fishing. four children ages 11 months to 14 years were with a babysitter. Firefighters from Mount Dora contained the blaze to one room but extensive smoke damage occurred throughout the house.

No injuries reported and damage estimate unavailable after a candle ignited clothing on a gas water heater in a cottage at the Christian Home and Bible School.
