A veteran focused activist group pushes for priority materials and transport facilities. Citizens attend meetings to demand clubhouse services and extended aid for all veterans, noting delays since twelve months ago and ongoing siting issues with the Legion.
The Carlos will present a concert sponsored by the Woman's Club with Katherine Carlo pianist and violinist Carlos. Tickets go on sale at the club dinner January 9 at Lakeside. Both artists trained at Juilliard and have ties to Rollins College. they have performed across Canada and the eastern U S. The program details will be announced next week by Mrs R N White Sr, club music chair.
The Grand View Hotel reports a full dining room on Christmas Day and festive decorations. Guests included Mr. J T Dixon, Mr. Charles Detroit, Mrs. G Morris, Dr. Corrigan and many others, with Dr. Corrigan undergoing major surgery at Orange General Hospital in Mount Dora.
Army and Navy surplus plasma valued at over one million packages will be distributed to Florida physicians and hospitals through the State Board of Health. Dried blood donations from citizens will be allocated at no charge, with distribution plans coordinated by state health authorities and hospital associations.

The Mount Dora Golf Club reports progress on a new nine hole course built for flexible play cycles of three six or nine holes. Located north of the Rudo within city limits the course aims to attract townspeople tourists and outside golfers when it opens. W Wadsworth J M Turner and H Overhiser lead the development and visitors may watch the work as fairways greens and tees are prepared.
Local volunteers organize parcels for Dutch families suffering wartime privations. Items sought include warm clothing sizes and shoes, sweaters, dresses, coats, and nonperishable foods like peanut butter and canned tuna. Paper, strings, and boxes are needed. avoid glassware. The First Methodist Church holds a Covenant Service Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated with a sermon by Rev. George Gibson. The church choirs sing. Darrell Pendleton leads worship. Mrs. Brown plays piano. An Evening Worship at 7:30 p.m. features a sermon by Mr. Gibson titled Christ Is All. Additional activities include Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and Youth Fellowship at 6:30 p.m. Mid Week Service for prayer and meditation is Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
Mount Dora plays Ocoee here to morrow night at 7 30 with both games promising. Fust is here Tuesday night and fans are urged to attend for competitive action and local sports entertainment.

The Lions Club’s postponed meeting from Monday December was held last Thursday night with about fifty attendees. Lion Bardwell and Lioness Bardwell performed on electric piano, Lioness JG Ray Jr sang solos, and Lioness Howard Simpson accompanied. Lions Bowdish hosted a turkey dinner from Grand View Hotel. Guests included Lion Bartholomew of Eustis and a lion guest from the north.
The Forum sponsored by the First Methodist Church and the Community Church opens January 7 at 8 p m in the First Methodist Church. Speaker L F Chapman superintendent of the Florida State Prison Farm Raiford will address Will There Be a Post War Crime Wave discussing religious and social questions of the day. The public is invited to attend and participate in the discussion.
Lake County Commissioners schedule first meeting of the year for Monday January 7 at 10 o clock in the court room in Tavares. The County School Board will also meet that morning in the office of the County Superintendent.
Local matchup features Mount Dora hosting Ocoee tomorrow at 7 30 PM. Eustis attendance expected as both teams aim for a strong showing in the nearby season.
Meredith of Orlando visits local duties while Thomas W. Gardiner of Los Angeles succeeds Charlie Bette as secretary treasurer of the American Lawn Bowling Association. Florida announces the first official Arbor Day to be observed Friday January 18 under a 1945 law. State Forester C. H. Coulter notes the third Friday in January was adopted and schools may qualify as charter observers by holding Arbor Day programs. State Superintendent Colin English urges broad participation by schools, public organizations, and communities.
Town officials led by Mayor M. W. Simpson report improved cash and bond accounting. As of November, cash and investments stood at 92,864.91 and 110,100.00, totaling 224,000.00 against bonded indebtednes of 287,000.
