The monthly Chamber of Commerce gathering will be at the Community Building Social Rooms on Friday February 27. Supper served at 6 30 with program to follow and no one detained after 8. Supper price is fifty cents and proceeds support the ladies work. Mrs Elizabeth Evans in charge. tickets from the Chamber office on Fifth Avenue.
Western Electric talking picture equipment arrived at Mount Dora theatre last week and is nearing completion. C M Gudgeon of Mount Dora handles electrical work contracted by Mr. Wales policy to spend locally. Western Electric engineer Kent expects completion by week end with possible reopening Sunday the 22nd and formal opening Tuesday the 24th. The new setup aims to make the theatre one of the best in the state for a town its size.
The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce reports daily influx of new members since last week’s list. New subscribers include Central Florida Fruit Farms Inc, Central Florida Vineyards Inc, City Service Station, Mount Dora Theatre, and several individuals. Officials aim for 200 memberships this month. The note urges citizens to join as a civic duty.
Mount Dorans are known for hospitality and residents display this by placing boxes of oranges grapefruit and tangerines on front steps with a note saying Help yourself such acts of kindness widespread on residential streets showing community generosity.
The Mount Dora Tourist Club features local performers with Miss Taylor and Miss Ide in cello and piano solos and Mrs. Johnson’s readings. The Pageant of Indian Life is postponed to February 27 and the Petrie Quintet headlines February 20. March 6 may see Rollins Glee Club on stage.
Mount Dora High school debaters clinched two state contest wins and will travel to DeLand on February 21 for the district meet. The February 21 round will feature Abby Jo Simpson Marie Slack and Joseph Swift as alternate on theMount Dora team debating the question whether the present jury system should be abolished.
Registration blanks are available at the Grand View Hotel for February 27 and 28 regatta visitors. Send details to H. G. Cloyes, secretary of the Regatta Committee, to secure rooms. Early submissions receive earlier rental.
Residents praise Mount Dora post office staff led by Postmaster Daniel H. Bishop and team Burgess Thayer Florence Hibbard and Clara Burchett for courtesy and helpful service under both administrations.
Mount Dora Yacht Club officials report a standout Regatta on Lake Dora with Rollins College students entering forty events including men's and women's war canoes, mixed doubles, tilting, and four oared shells. Dr. Robert Dickson organized the Rollins representation and funding, while a Palm Beach invitation team plans to secure other clubs for the February 28 race day.
Harold Wilson of Rehbaum & Crane installs a Philco Transitone radio in a Ford with a built in aerial. The setup allows listening to most stations while traveling around the city with minimal interference except near dense power lines or heavy transmission sites.
At a regular Mount Dora Chamber meeting the board unanimously voted to sponsor Mount Dora Day at the Central Florida Exposition in Orlando this year. The date is set for Wednesday February 25 with a 1:00 pm motorcade from the Community Building.
The annual auction at the Community Building Auditorium drew a large crowd last Saturday with the Williams Brothers Old Time Fiddlers providing music. Thomas H. Cooley acted as auctioneer with Harold Overhiser and Geo J. White assisting. $208.24 net was raised to support disabled veterans and their families.

The Ladies Aid Society of the Community church will hold a thrift sale and bazaar Thursday through Saturday February 26 to 28 in a vacant Fifth Avenue store in the Mount Dora theatre block. New and old articles will be sold and a Saturday food sale features meat loaf baked beans and salad. Donations of articles are welcome and may be left at J. J. West Realty Co or called for if delivery is difficult.

A fine eight and one half pound boy Clyde Ernest was born to Mr and Mrs Ernest Mosteller of Fifth Avenue in the afternoon of February 12th.
Major Charles A Brown of Orlando president of the Central Florida Council Boy Scouts will speak at the Kiwanis noon meeting. He will discuss Boy Scout work in Central Florida and the club will present its annual 250 contribution to the Central Florida Council for the local troop.
