Mount Dora drew thousands for a first time art festival and power boat races that clogged Donnelly Street and filled the lakefront Sunday. Visitors praised the event's smooth execution while locals mixed pride with complaints about noise and crowds.
The Mount Dora Art Festival drew an estimated 30 000 to 50 000 visitors over two days. About 250 artists exhibited across seven downtown blocks, with Marilyn Sams winning a $50 Merit Award among local participants. The event featured 350 students from 12 Golden Triangle schools and was judged by Frank Lamb and Charles Wellman.

George J. White Jr president of First National Bank of Mount Dora is named to a two year term on the Regional Advisory Committee on Banking Policies and Practices. Five other new members from Miami Beach Stuart Albany Thomson Columbia join the panel with S E P Taliaferro of Tampa designated chairman to assist the OCC in keeping bank regulation aligned with national needs.
