Notable Society Couples and Visitors Move Through Mount Dora

In Mount Dora, Mrs. James Harvey formerly Jessie Pike leaves to join husband Ensign Harvey in Athens Greece after completing an English degree at Stetson University. Her mother Mrs. Wallace Pike travels to New York and will visit sister Mrs. R. C. deArmond at Fort George G. Meade with sisters from across the country for a 30 year reunion. Also noted are 40th wedding anniversary plans for Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bischoff with open house at 1221 Baker St. and various regional visits by local residents and society groups. The Florida Audubon Society sees new secretary Mrs. James L. Moody of Tangerine. The Lake County Ladies Chorus plans a sacred concert at First Methodist Church in Eustis as part of Chain of Missionary Assemblies. John Seabury returns to Surinam after a year’s travel.

February WSCS circle meetings are listed with locations hosts and program plans. Dorcas attends the Chain of Missionary Assembly February 13 followed by a social and Easter Seal Drive envelope packing. Esther group program at Mrs. Brooks on Tuesday at 2 pm led by Mrs. Johnson with co hostesses. Hope circle hosts Hawaii slides February 18 at 2 pm preceded by a dessert. Lydia meets February 18 at 2 pm at Mrs Conway. Martha circle program by Miss Hatch and devotions led by Mrs Whinery at Mrs Stringfellow’s home. Mary circle gathers February 17 at 7 30 pm in Fellowship Hall with Mrs Cahill in charge. Naomi circle meets February 18 at 9 30 am at Mrs Swarts with devotions by Mrs Bernlehr. Pricilla circle program February 18 at 2 pm at Mrs Seibert with Mrs Clinton leading devotions. Rebecca circle has a covered dish luncheon February 18 at 12 30 pm in Fellowship Hall with change noted to second Tuesday. Ruth circle features Missions program February 18 at 9 30 am at Mrs Cook with devotions by Mrs Dooley. Sarah circle meeting February 18 at Mrs Hardesty with Hawaii slides by Mrs Powell. Brother Dies of New Port Richey War Veteran

Mr. Ross Chidester of New Port Richey died February 1 at St. Petersburg. Born September 24, 1893, he served overseas in World War I. Funeral was held at North Funeral Home near New Port Richey. Survivors include his widow, two sisters and another brother.

Lakes Hills Conference Tourney Set at Montverde Academy

The Lakes Hills Conference basketball tournament will be held in the Montverde Academy gym on Friday and Saturday. Friday schedule opens at 3 p.m. with Florida Central Academy JV versus Howey Academy IVs, followed by Mount Dora Bible School versus Montverde Academy at 4 30 p.m. The varsity games begin at 7 p.m. with Florida Central facing Howey and Mount Dora Bible School meeting Montverde Academy at 8 30 p.m. Saturday features JV finals at 7 p.m. and varsity final at 8 30 p.m. Coach Walter L. Stephens Jr. commented on officials for the event.
