Mikado to Be Presented Next Week by Mount Dora Club

The Mount Dora Tourist Club will stage Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado next Tuesday night performed by the Thalians of Tampa. The production features a 40-strong cast in brilliant costumes with an ornate oriental setting.

Florida Waterway Congress To Meet Here February 22

Florida Waterway Congress plans its third annual convention in Lake County on February 22. The event coincides with Washington's Birthday celebrations in Eustis and will feature leaders from Gulf coast and southern waterways, including Congressmen and notable regional officials. Activities include setting dates for the first Orange Box Regatta, with hotel headquarters at Lakeside Inn and sessions at the Community Building. Walter F. Coachman Jr. chairs, with H. C. Take Advantage Of Murphy Act Before Too Late

Lake County property owners are rushing to use the Murphy Act passed in 1937 to wipe out past due state and county taxes by purchasing delinquent tax certificates at auction. The County Clerk warns that time is limited and delays may cause a rush that prevents clerical work and advertising from being completed. Some court cases challenge the act, risking loss of benefits for latecomers.

The Mount Dora Shuffleboard Club now has 140 members and seven Donnelly Park boards run flat with a waiting list. The club could add more boards and has been invited to play in Eustis on Washington's Birthday, where they will compete in events there.

Mount Dora bowls hosted a St Petersburg club on a two team match day, Mount Dora won 28 to 7 in the morning session with two high scoring showings. Afterward a luncheon was served by local ladies as visitors praised Mount Dora scenery and hospitality before heading to Orlando. On the 28th Mount Dora narrowly lost to DeLand by one point in a social match.

Dr. Conrad Paul W. Conrad, Mount Dora High School Class of 1929, received a Doctor of Philosophy from the Graduate College of the State University of Iowa. He earned a BS from the University of Florida in 1933, an MS in 1935, and completed the PhD in 1938.
