Winter Visitors Spending Expands State Advertising Budget

The article notes a rise in state advertising funds for winter visitors, from about 7,000 in 1927 1928 to nearly 50,000 in the last three years under the current administration. The increase is funded by hotel apartment and restaurant inspection fees, not general taxes, aided by hotel department savings cutting annual costs from over 120,000 to under 75,000.

Florida’s Cenozoic Outcrops Reveal Deep Florida History

Florida’s younger surface outcrops lie in the Cenozoic era with all its epochs represented. A Marion county well reached 6180 feet, turning up micachists slate and quartzite past four thousand feet, the first solid data on Florida sediment thickness. The basement rocks’ age remains undetermined. Paleozoic crystalline rocks exist in Georgia and Alabama, hinting Florida was once part of old Appalachia. Since then Florida rose and fell with land and sea through major vicissitudes to become today’s peninsula.
