Mount Dora City Hall will be closed on Saturday December 23 and Monday December 25 for the Christmas holiday. Departments will resume service on the following business day.
The Mount Dora Topic will close Monday December 25 for Christmas. News releases and club notices for the December 28 issue should be brought to the Topic office by Friday December 22.
Police Chief Bud Huett reports the Jr Rifle Club is now debt free thanks to proceeds from a Donnelly Park barbecue held during the Jaycee Christmas Parade. The American Legion and Mount Dora Police sponsor the youth program teaching firearm safety. instruction is free and open to children receiving a Christmas firearm.
The Pilot Tree in Donnelly Park at 6th and Donnelly Ave lights up with help from donors. Marianne Clark at the Grandview Hotel will record each $1 bulb donation to place names on the tree as part of the annual Pilot Club project.
The Mount Dora city council, in a routine meeting, discussed bids for downtown planter boxes and approved low maintenance evergreen shrubbery. It also granted a church setback variance, denied Fred Compton’s rezoning request, authorized moving a house from Ocoee to East Town, and instructed collection actions on street pavement arrears.
The Florida Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual Youth Concert for Mount Dora schoolchildren on January 8, 1968. Due to higher enrollment the concert will be held at the high school football stadium for one extended performance, directed by new resident conductor Herman Herz who impressed Orlando patrons last year. He aims to bring quality musical experiences to youths.
Patients at Waterman Memorial Hospital Eustis this week from Mount Dora include Lyde Wilder Robert Conner Gizella Schubert Marven McCollum Sandra Jones Edson Feilding Baren O Mills Carolyn Hughes Flavius Haddock Lora Kirby Ethel Maxwell Virgil Steffey Bessie H Andreu Levant P DeWolf Jr Robert Richardson.
The Jaycees annual Christmas Parade drew hundreds from Central Florida to Mount Dora. Spectators lined the route and some found seats atop the Topic building as Sheriff Willis McCall and his prancing steed drew admirers.
Ernie Lancaster son of Mrs Lee Lancaster of Zellwood wins 100 dollars for selling 34 subscriptions in the Topic month long sweepstakes leading 24 participants and boosting the firm’s list by over 200. Jeff Conner and Mike Simpson place second and third with 65 and 35 dollars respectively with all participants earning a dollar per sub and a four dollar bonus for 15. Awards given December 16 at the Topic office.
