Ramie Pilot Plant Planned for Zellwood Next Spring
Johannes Verdouw of Holland announces a pilot ramie plant at Zellwood next spring with potential to spawn a $200,000 ramie mill and 70 to 80 jobs. He brings a patented decorticating and degumming process claimed to ready ramie for weaving in two hours, using air pressure and steam at low temperatures. Verdouw plans 20,000 acres of ramie in the Zellwood area and a Dutch colony to support 25 families, with Brazil operations also on his schedule before returning to Mount Dora in March.

Miss Anna L. Whitney 59 of Mount Dora dies at home after a long illness. Funeral services will be held in Conneaut Ohio today. She is survived by sister Miss Clara Whitney and brother Wilbur Whitney of Conneaut. Whitney had spent winters in Mount Dora for 17 years.

Merchants Asked To Cooperate On Rat Program
Mount Dora business houses were urged to join the Lake County Sanitation Department in a rat eradication drive to curb typhus risk. Fletcher Crane said merchants will help educate on costs saved by eradicating rats while Jack Trawick surveys buildings for rat-proofing. Blood tests on captured rats were sent to state laboratories to check for typhus.

Holidays Begin As Mount Dora Students Prepare
As the last bell rings students at Mount Dora School head into two weeks of Christmas vacation starting December 25 with classes resuming January 5. Room Mothers host class parties and Christmas trees brighten nearly every room while students exchange visits to admire decorations and sample tidbits. At the high school, a Friday assembly features a Christmas program and the music department closes the observance Sunday with a 3 30 p m Community building concert led by Mrs Bennett Land.
