Flackey Re-elected Mayor In City Election Tuesday

Results from the city show Mayor Flackey reelected by a large majority. Mrs. Zell won a seat on the Park Commission, while several candidates received scattered votes. The pivotal issue was the purchase of City Hall with 821 to 44 support, out of 514 total votes cast. Election inspectors were L. R. Tremain F. Pearson C. Raymond. young clerk C. R. Javens.

The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday December 16 at 6 30 PM in the Community Hall social room. A free light luncheon will be served to members after the annual reports of secretary and treasurer, and the annual election of officers.

Mount Dora Overnight Stop on Second Waterways Cruise

Eight outboard motor craft will leave Jacksonville on New Year's Day for a four day inland cruise to Silver Springs Mount Dora Sanford and DeLeon Springs. The itinerary includes portage at Mount Dora with lifting equipment to move craft to Sanford. The trip aims to boost inland waterway cruising and public interest in small craft boating.

Baptist Ladies Missionary Circle Meets at Michael Home

The Mary Simpson Circle of the Baptist Missionary Society met at Mrs. B. F. Michael's home last Friday with fifteen ladies present. They decided to study Dr. R. A. Torrey's How To Pray. Delicous refreshments were served at the close by the hostess.

Kiwanis members voted 110 toward a Christmas candy fund for all town children. Attorney J W Hunter spoke on Lake County juvenile offenders and asked Mount Dora Kiwanis to appoint a committee to work with him on cases arising in the area.

Florida citrus exchange plans juice and fruit stores statewide

The Florida Citrus Exchange directs a plan to open high grade fruit and pure juice stores across the state under the Scald-Sweet brand. The move follows success of existing associations with stores in Bradenton Sara sota Lake Wales and St Petersburg and aims to serve Jacksonville and Miami.

Auxiliary To Present Entertaining Fundraiser Monday

The American Legion Auxiliary will stage Walk This Way a musical comedy in the Community auditorium on Monday at 8 15 p m to raise funds for relief work. A 13 member cast with eight chorus girls and boys will perform with a style show by Mrs Etchells. Proceeds support two local families of disabled veterans and other cases. Tickets are available at Mount Dora Pharmacy.

Enthusiastic Leesburg Legion Meeting Honors Veterans

The American Legion post held a large meeting in Community Hall with about forty attendees. Guests included Justin Langelle, Tom Wardell, and John Hulbert. past commander pins were awarded to George White and Dan Bishop. Col. W. J. Sanborn gave a keynote talk on thinning G A R and Confederate Veterans ranks and the Legion carrying standards forward. Installation of officers was postponed to a county union meeting in Leesburg.

Death of Mr. Bostic in Eustis is noted in Mount Dora

Mr. Tom Bostic formerly of Mount Dora and brother of Mrs. Charles Stokley died Sunday morning in Eustis after a lingering illness. He was buried in Forest Cemetery Mount Dora Monday afternoon.

Florida Chamber of Commerce Opposes State Bond Issuance

In West Palm Beach the Florida State Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution opposing any constitutional amendment permitting the state to issue bonds or incur indebtedness for purposes not provided in the present charter. The document, read by Col. Peter Q. Knight of Tampa, argues Florida has attracted over two billion dollars in outside capital due to its tax system and constitutional protections, and that tax and fiscal policies should remain unchanged. The resolution states opposition to changing the state's bonding authority and cautions against altering taxation that could impact such capital investment.
