About half of Mount Dora’s registered voters participated last week influencing policies affecting the entire community. The turnout determined how the whole population will live under new local decisions.
C. O. Lott won a commanding Mount Dora City Council victory with 516 votes to Howard Cox 396 and Gordon Dake 365. Dake and Cox also return to council. Weiderhold and Hinz win Park Board seats as French loses.
Hundreds, many high school students, attend the funeral for Robin Rector a 16 year old Mount Dora High School sophomore who died from injuries after a collision near Tavares. The service at First Baptist Church Mount Dora was led by Rev. David Coffield. Six youths were involved. David D. Mahan remains in critical condition. others injured include Leonard Purvee Charles Carter Jeff Allie and Charles Young. The crash occurred when Mahan pulled onto SR 19 south of Tavares into the path of a panel truck owned by the Lake County School Board driven by Ollie Stone who died Monday. The Mustang driven by Mahan was a total loss.
