City Councilman Tyrone Parker spoke to 40 attendees as the Concerned Citizens Association of Mount Dora began a candidate screening series. Budget priorities include sewerage treatment with 176000 spent this year, storm drains, and East Town paving. Parker favors fire districts and says growth is being controlled but cannot be stopped. He will not seek reelection this year.

Mount Dora Public Schools Open With Enrollment Rise
Enrollment is up as Mount Dora public schools start the new year with about 2,230 students and a potential 10 percent increase over last year. Roseborough Elementary will enroll about 500 students from kindergarten through fifth grade, 200 fewer due to transfers to Triangle Elementary. Classes start at 8 30 a.m. with the tardy bell.

Mount Dora Council approves new utility service fees
Mount Dora City Council voted to adopt charges for utilities including 5 dollars to disconnect service for non payment and 5 dollars to reconnect. An additional 10 dollar after hours reconnect fee was set to cover labor costs. The meeting began with a denial of a zoning request for a Calvary Chapel Assembly of God church on E Pine Ave citing parking noise and drainage concerns.
