The City Council heard plans last week for a massive condominium project to rise across from the Shopping Center. Construction is slated to begin soon, transforming the vacant lot into a densely built residential hub.
Kim Strow, student advisor at Lake Sumter Community College, chats with three area high school graduates during freshman orientation. Kris Witter, Nancye Shaw, and Nancy Beyers, all of Leesburg or Mount Dora, will be freshmen this fall.
Health officials warn drowning as a leading accidental death, with 7000 yearly. They cite more pools and boats, urge swimming lessons, never swim exhausted, swim with a companion, seek lifeguarded areas, avoid night swims, and caution after meals or medication. Mount Dora groups offer water survival brochures.
The Peach tree Development Corporation plans Billingsley Acres a 136 unit condominium complex across from the Shopping Center between the Tuxedo Feed store and the Sewage Treatment Plant. Units will be 1 2 or 3 bedrooms averaging $25 000 with patios or balconies and a recreation clubhouse. A Lake Dora gazebo Tea Room and possibly a restaurant are planned for residents and public use. Construction begins after city technicalities are resolved. The meeting also considered a second reading amendment to the Travel Trailer Ordinance 141 adding new provisions for trailers motor homes and related vehicles.
