The city ends its summer recreation program at Hurricane Hut with tournaments held all week. Trophies will be awarded Thursday afternoon to event winners. Officials praise the program for providing fun, competition and relaxation to local youth.
The swimming pool at Mount Dora High School will close on August 31 to allow cleaning and repairs before the new school year begins. Local officials say the closure enables essential maintenance and readiness for fall activities.
Major Stacey L. Pait received the Distinguished Flying Cross at Tan Son Nhut AB Vietnam for rescuing an airfield survey officer during an attack. His aircraft sustained damage yet he taxied to the runway end, retrieved the officer, and completed a safe takeoff. He has 1000 combat sorties with the 19th Tactical Airlift Squadron, flying C 123K Providers.
Master Sergeant Ronald Ravenhill, son of Mr and Mrs Clifford A Ravenhill, received the Army Commendation Medal while serving with the 92nd Artillery near Pleiku Vietnam. He earned it for meritorious service during his last assignment at the U S Army Infantry School Fort Benning Ga and now serves as first sergeant with Headquarters Battery 1st Battalion 92nd Artillery. His wife Juanita lives in Columbus Ga and he attended Monmouth College in Monmouth Illinois.
