Mount Dora City Council unanimously adopts a tentative budget totaling 8.25 mills to raise about 45 644 dollars for the year. Maintenance shares 75 percent of the levy while bonds and interest take 25 percent. Park and parkland funding totals 9 900 dollars, including Donnelly Park.
A stubborn grocer resisted advertising, then, pressed by newspaper solicitations, he launched a six week campaign. He now buys space and plans better ads, confessing he never believed it could work. The claim reads like a patent medicine yet remains the truth.

C C Moorehead was knocked to the pavement Tuesday afternoon when entangled in a heavy hose at the fire scene. He sustained a broken bone near the shoulder and possible damage to the lower arm. Dr. Fenn rendered first aid and he was sent to Orange General Hospital for X rays and treatment.

Death attributed to a head wound with cause undetermined though some believed a fall. No disorder found, gun located away from body. Lake County Sheriff investigating. burial at Groveland. survivors include brothers J T and J D Hardin.

Major and Mrs A C Houghton enjoy a several week visit in Mount Dora while Dean H S Houghton from Iowa City Iowa was on vacation. He spoke on China during a prior Mount Dora visit. He served as missionary early in China and later led the Pe king Union Medical College for fifteen years. He then returned to the United States and became Dean of the College of Medicine at Iowa State University and director of medical service for its three hospitals.
Furnishings Department announces dishes arrived and a 30 gallon hot water tank will be installed after the Building Committee approves cutting a door to the outside for icebox use. Council ordered the work Tuesday night and 17 dozen water glasses have arrived. After carpentry and tank installation, preparations will be completed for the season.
Mount Dora youth Frank Morley, 20, will pilot a Harpon runabout designed by George F. Couch Inc and built by Pratt Read Co. on an endurance trip from New York to Miami. The voyage includes legs New York to Chesapeake Bay and Beaufort to Charleston, totaling about 590 miles, aiming to set a new record in under 26 days.

Maj Gen Douglas MacArthur was appointed chief of staff of the Army by President Hoover on August 5, succeeding Gen Charles P Summerall. He was chosen over higher ranking majors generals and will assume duties after Summerall retires November 20 at the end of the Ninth Corps Area command in San Francisco.
Radio listeners will hear Colonel Charles A Lindbergh Friday August 8 at 10:00 P M over WDBO from Columbia's New York studios. After the talk 45 minutes of dance music from New York hotels will follow.

Six months officers reports filed for County Judge Tax Collector Tax Assessor Clerk of Court and Sheriff.
