Many Awards Passed Out At Swim Club Banquet

The Mount Dora Swim Club held its annual banquet and meeting at the Community Building with awards for top young swimmers. Mrs. Jo Hays was elected president, with Mrs. Jane Haneman as vice president and Mrs. Lee DeLoach as secretary. Randy Cox to coach next season. Awards honored Trina Pinkston, Sandy Husebo, Sara Andrews, David Andrews, Pike Hamlin, Steve Buchanan, Valerie Hays, Chuck Haneman, and others across age groups. Results from the intra club meet named top finishers and ribbons.

Mount Dora Swimmers Qualify for State AAU Meet

Fifteen Mount Dora Swim Club competitors qualified for the State AAU Meet in Florida. In Girls 10 and under, Sandy Husebo led with events in medley relay IM and several strokes, joined by Carol Jackson Leah Overhiser and Charlotte Seabury. In Girls 13 and 14 Katrina Pinkston Julie Melvin Dorothy Pease and Kerry McWhorter also qualified. Boys 13 and 14 feature Tim Bowman in multiple freestyle events Russ Haneman in relays and Pitts as alternate.

Cancer Crusade Exceeds Goal in Mount Dora

Mount Dora audiences joined the Cancer Crusade raising over two thousand four hundred dollars, surpassing the $1 350 goal. Chairman Tom Wetherington credited the strong response from residents in the city and surrounding area. Special gifts chair Mrs Betty Siess aided the effort.

Comedy to Have Large Role During Icehouse 65 66 Season

IceHouse Players of Mount Dora anticipate a strong comedy presence in the 1965 66 season with a short list of about two dozen plays toward selecting six productions. The committee led by Mrs. Dorothy Johnson notes the audience favors entertaining works and includes new and classic titles such as The Fantasticks and Guys and Dolls among musicals and plays like Life with Father and The Teahouse of the August Moon.

Engineer weighs sewer hookup for new bank at Golden Triangle

Orlando consultant A E ONeill to study feasibility of tying the Bank of Mount Dora at the Golden Triangle Shopping Center to city sewers. A 300 plus foot run could be required and builder J G Ray Jr doubts gravity flow. Ray suggests a temporary septic tank until sewer extension proves warranted.

Beiser Former Concert Artist Dies At Mount Dora

Maude P Beiser of Mount Dora died July 29 after a life in music and art. She taught piano in Brooklyn and Long Island, accompanied Metropolitan Opera artists, and painted prize winning canvases. Survived by two daughters, a brother, and a grandson. Services held at Rehbaum Funeral Home.

Episcopalian Mission Becomes St Edward's in Mount Dora

In Mount Dora Episcopalians without a church formed a Diocesan Mission under Canon William Hargrave. St Edward's was chosen, property bought at 5th Ave and Grandview St, Father Mangrum appointed, fund drive raised $60,000, church built of fieldstone and glass, dedicated before Christmas by Bishop Moses, marking a new parish in the community.
