Rain stopped play for a week delaying the Mount Dora tennis event. Most men’s singles reach quarter finals and doubles reach semi finals. Finalists may be decided next week if the weather clears and trophies, presented by the Chamber of Commerce, go to Christmas.

Seek Funds for School Auditorium Project

School trustees will submit a plan for a $30,000 auditorium at the local high school to the WPA this week. The proposal requests a $13,500 grant and a $16,500 loan from the government. County Superintendent D. H. Moore confirms the step and Arthur Williams of Tavares, designer, will present to the WPA regional office in Atlanta. A $31,000 gymnasium is currently under construction by the WPA.

Topic College Scholarship Drive Opens in Mount Dora

Mount Dora Topic launches a subscription drive from Friday August five to September sixteen aimed at placing the paper in every home. The campaign rewards top sellers with college scholarships of 250, 100 and 50 dollars, plus a ten percent share of nonwinning subscription money for all entrants. Red Cross Executive Helps Lake County Chapter Work

Miss Barbara Hoffman executive secretary of Lake County Chapter American Red Cross is in Mount Dora for a month or more assisting the chapter in peacetime activities. She has office space at the Chamber of Commerce and previously reorganized branches in Leesburg and Eustis. Captain B C Jones chairs the Lake County Chapter. Mrs George Keller is secretary treasurer. An annual project funds the county nurse salary. only until November 1 when the County Health Unit assumes duties.
