Commercial Gas Franchise Passes First Reading in Mount Dora

At a Monday night Town Council special meeting the Florida Gas Company franchise for supplying and distributing commercial gas to Mount Dora was given first reading. A May 12 meeting was set for further action to review a proposed 11 mile piping plan and a 30 year franchise with six month start. The company pledges no disruption to drainage or underground utilities and to restore parkways and preserve trees.

Florida citrus surge boosts New York orange prices

The Florida Citrus Exchange credits brand advertising and shipment control for rising New York orange prices from February 9 as midseason oranges moved to Valencia. prices climbed to about 4.30 a box before dipping 80 cents as control shifted. The graph, based on official market records, shows California oranges falling to Florida levels amid nationwide advertising and distribution.

Mount Dora citizens urged to donate toward at least 800 dollars for a soldiers monument to honor World War I heroes. Subscriptions of five dollars earn a spot on the permanent Roll of Honor. Col. Pythian Sisters Memorial Service Held at Mount Doral Temple

Mount Doral Temple No. 12 Pythian Sisters held a public memorial at Lakeview Pharmacy on Sunday afternoon. The program featured a solo by Mrs. Marjorie Wilt a duet by Mr and Mrs A P Sidel an address by Rev F W Overhiser candle and flower ceremony with six sisters names read and a white lily placed for each deceased sister or brother including Sister Clarissa Gillett. The service closed with a officers’ performance before the group decorated graves locally.

The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce met in the Community Building Social Rooms with over 100 attendees. Dr. C A Vincent of Winter Park spoke on parental responsibility, joined by Judge J M Cheeney of Orange County Juvenile Court and G W Wakeline of Orlando Scout Executive. Action Started For High Water Relief

The executive committee formed Tuesday to address the high water menace plans relief actions. They will seek orders from the U S War Department engineer in Jacksonville to increase flow over Moss Bluff dam to aid flooded areas above Lake Griffin. A petition drive will enlist affected residents and property owners in the Lake Griffin region.
