Brigadier General Vivian states three requirements for the 1942 registration of all male citizens and resident aliens in Florida who are aged 45 to 64. Those born on or before February 16, 1897 and after February 16, 1942 must present themselves for registration on April 27.
Congressman Joe Hendricks says international crises and pending House legislation limit campaign time. He urges voters to understand his need to stay on the job, citing his district work and Appropriations Committee role. He will visit Mount Dora Thursday morning April 30 to speak briefly.
Lake County Tax Collector Pearl L. Cullen warns property owners that 1941 taxes must be paid by May 1 to avoid penalties. If unpaid, a 3 percent interest applies until May 1 and 4 percent plus advertising costs after June 1, with a public sale of delinquent property set for June 30. About 80 percent of taxes have been paid to date.
A party of ten spent Sunday and Monday on the water traveling to Silver Springs aboard the City of Dora. They camped overnight at the springs, dined aboard Sunday, and returned Monday. Highlights included herons, alligators, monkeys, gar gigging gar and swimming, with a short comedy performed by a party member. The group included Mr and Mrs Fletcher Crane, Mr and Mrs Arthur Tanner, Major and Mrs Paul Martin, Mr and Mrs George Keller, and Misses Peggy Everhart and Maribel Callaway.
Lieut and Mrs Richard McCoy and Lieut and Mrs Max Kable from Sumter South Carolina visited Mount Dora for a few days on a leave between classes. The group vacationed at Daytona Beach and enjoyed a lake and Dora Canal boat trip hosted by Mr and Mrs Claflin. Edith Cookinham, Mrs McCoy, is remembered from Mount Dora.
Readers are invited to a church program featuring two one act plays tomorrow night. The event promises varied drama with a young cast and a lively church audience.

The Sons of the American Legion met on Tuesday April 13 electing Oscar Stephens Jr as Captain and John Barker as Adjutant. New officers include William Barker First Lieutenant Harold Overhis er Second Lieutenant George White Finance Officer William Stephens Sergeant at Arms Tommy Kelly Chaplain Carl Tucker Historian. They approved placing American Legion markers on two veterans graves in Mount Dora cemetery and cataloguing the graves. The group thanked Mr. R M Goodman for a donated American flag.
Bertram Day a popular poet author lecturer and scientist will speak in the Methodist Church Sunday evening at 7 30. Day comes from Indianapolis Indiana and taught the Sunday School class Rev Rogers attended. Everyone is invited to attend this service marking the concluding evening service of the season.
Mount Dora Post No 35 handles sale of United States flags and staffs. Flags available in various sizes and types, staff and holders also offered. Orders placed via Ben Carr Richard Eddy or any Post member, with no stock on hand.
Nineteen Mount Dora Kiwanis members joined an inter club meeting in Umatilla with the Umatilla Kiwanis. Some members visited local clubs for a luncheon and meeting. Dr N S Mayo spoke on veterinary practice noting growth over forty five years. J R Parkinson of Daytona Beach was a guest and J C Urquhart won War Stamps.
A Roll of Honor will be erected in Donnelly Park facing Fifth Avenue on the Legion Plot to honor local men in all armed services. The effort is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion with ongoing name additions as service continues. Memo of thanks goes to contributors and organizers including E H Van Voorhis and Frank Cornish for the project work.
Eugene S. Matthews of Starke Bradford County visited Mount Dora last week calling on old friends and new acquaintances. The Topic endorses his re election for Group 1 citing his long service, impartiality, and strong qualifications for the railroad commission.
Major H. A. Rancourt stationed at Camp Blanding inspected Company B at Eustis Monday night. Captain C. R. Javens led Company B with about half the men from Mount Dora and nearby areas. He also inspected Company A in Lake County on Friday night.
Fighting the Fire Bomb a talk ing moving picture detailing how to dispose of incendiary bombs is scheduled for a return engagement in Lake County on May ninth. Citizens groups should address requests to the Lake County Defense Council or Lake County Chamber of Commerce to arrange showings for members.

Walter C McWhorter asked removal from honor roll after honorable discharge due to heart condition. Felton Dizzy Dean Navy Washington D C passed petty officer third class exam and enjoys work seven days a week. Lieut Lem Downs at sea sailed thirteenth from an undetermined port to an undetermined destination. The paper requests photos of servicemen for publication with returns of unused cuts.
Secretary Morgenthau and Secretary Wickard headline a Blue Network broadcast from 10:00 to 10:30 EWT to discuss the National War Board quota system and the ten per cent Payroll Savings plan. Guest of honor is Navy pilot Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry O’Hare. Others include William Green and Philip Murray among labor and manufacturing leaders.
Mount Dora Post No. 35 American Legion held a regular meeting on April 6 electing officers. Commander Richard Eddy and Vice Commander T. A. Townsend lead the slate. Adjutant and Finance Officer Ben Arr, Chaplain D. H. Bishop, Sergeant at Arms J. R. Tucker, Service Officer C. H. Lichliter, and Historian Wm. F. Young were named to their posts.
Lions Club members gathered for a general discussion on club matters and war bonds. President Turrentine led a 100 percent pledge to buy war bonds with members committing specified amounts and intervals.
Mount Dora reports a completed Boy Scout drive with 159 contributors raising 277 dollars. Fifty two workers from local organizations canvassed the town for a week, led by Kiwanis presidents J McLeod Smith and Harry Mathews.
The Band Boosters Club lists pre concert contributors for instruments and uniforms. The Mount Dora School will host sugar trade registration on April 28 and 29 from 10 am to 4 pm. It covers hotels stores wholesalers restaurants canning plants manufacturers and other large sugar users in Sorrento Lake Jem and Mount Dora. Registration is not open to the general public.

He noted Florida’s vulnerability with many bases, warned that any bomber could target even small towns, and called for faster training for auxiliary firemen and policemen while praising Lake County units and Mount Dora’s progress.
C R Javens resigns from Lake County Selective Service Board while C H Lichliter is appointed to succeed him. A C Quixley becomes Lake County Rationing Board 128 chairman replacing Lichliter. D Fletcher Crane joins as new board member, Alfred Rehbautm sr remains. Rationing offices stay at Fifth and Donnelly streets until further notice.
