A party of ten spent Sunday and Monday on the water traveling to Silver Springs aboard the City of Dora. They camped overnight at the springs, dined aboard Sunday, and returned Monday. Highlights included herons, alligators, monkeys, gar gigging gar and swimming, with a short comedy performed by a party member. The group included Mr and Mrs Fletcher Crane, Mr and Mrs Arthur Tanner, Major and Mrs Paul Martin, Mr and Mrs George Keller, and Misses Peggy Everhart and Maribel Callaway.

Visiting Air Corps Couples Tour Florida Shores

Lieut and Mrs Richard McCoy and Lieut and Mrs Max Kable from Sumter South Carolina visited Mount Dora for a few days on a leave between classes. The group vacationed at Daytona Beach and enjoyed a lake and Dora Canal boat trip hosted by Mr and Mrs Claflin. Edith Cookinham, Mrs McCoy, is remembered from Mount Dora.

Sons of the Legion Elect New Officers in Mount Dora

The Sons of the American Legion met on Tuesday April 13 electing Oscar Stephens Jr as Captain and John Barker as Adjutant. New officers include William Barker First Lieutenant Harold Overhis er Second Lieutenant George White Finance Officer William Stephens Sergeant at Arms Tommy Kelly Chaplain Carl Tucker Historian. They approved placing American Legion markers on two veterans graves in Mount Dora cemetery and cataloguing the graves. The group thanked Mr. R M Goodman for a donated American flag.

Bertram Day to Speak at Methodist Church Sunday

Bertram Day a popular poet author lecturer and scientist will speak in the Methodist Church Sunday evening at 7 30. Day comes from Indianapolis Indiana and taught the Sunday School class Rev Rogers attended. Everyone is invited to attend this service marking the concluding evening service of the season.

A Roll of Honor will be erected in Donnelly Park facing Fifth Avenue on the Legion Plot to honor local men in all armed services. The effort is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion with ongoing name additions as service continues.
