City Names Arbitrator In Gas Company Negotiations
City council named L B Allen of Allen Hoshall Smally Wellford Nalven as arbitrator in talks with Florida Gas Utilities to take over Mount Dora distribution facilities. The council stressed the appointment is a formality while the company already named its own representative. The franchise expires in May and the city has not decided to enter the gas business. Florida Gas Utilities previously changed its name from Houston Corp. and had its consultant, paid 2500, recommend city involvement. The arbitrator’s role is to set a price for the properties, not guarantee entry into gas distribution. The council notified both sides that the appointment does not authorize travel or expenses beyond interim notice. Florida Gas manager Gordon Lynn questioned whether the city could be induced to accept a higher take, noting six percent of gross revenue as a high price in lieu of taxes.
