Mount Dora merchants including First National Bank of Mount Dora and Mount Dora Hardware Company reach an agreement to close stores on Thursday afternoons. The move affects numerous local businesses such as Coleman’s Bakery Lake View Pharmacy Mount Dora Pharmacy and Lake Dora Packing Co under the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce guidance.

Watermelon Festival Plans Announced by Ta vares Chamber

The Ta vares county Chamber of Commerce announced plans for a county wide Watermelon Festival. A finance committee was formed to raise 500 dollars for estimated expenses. An April 17 meeting will assign duties and start preparations with a tentative festival date in late June. Officers elected last year include W B Gibson president Justine Langille secretary and Carlisle Rogers treasurer. Directors cover all county sections and districts. County organizations are urged to cooperate for a grand success.

Mount Dora Glee Club Broadcast From Gainesville Radio

The Mount Dora Girls Glee Club performed a 6:15 to 6:45 PM broadcast on WRUF from Gainesville with Mrs. E E Truskett leading. Despite static, listeners praised the program featuring Sleepy Hollow Tune Indian songs Irish melodies and popular numbers with solos and ukulele.

Florida Inland Waterways Group Drives Cross-State Canal Plan

The Leesburg meeting of the Florida Inland and Coastal Waterways Association formed an executive committee to push a cross-state canal linking central Florida lakes and rivers. Chairman A F Knotts presided as Maj Chas E Browne was hired to survey routes and costs for the U S district engineer in Jacksonville. Local counties pledged funds to cover initial resurveying and data compiling for the inter coastal route from the Atlantic to the Gulf.
