Renowned Lecturer D. J. Woodly To Address Kiwanis

Dr. D J Woodly will address the Mount Dora Kiwanis on vocational guidance after Dr D J Johnson, pastor of the Episcopal church, spoke on We Build. The meeting venue is Villa Dora Hotel. Woodly, former president of multiple Florida and New Jersey institutions, will also meet groups on youth welfare and guidance.

Lake County Auto Mechanics Endorse State Reregulation Plan

The Lake County Auto Mechanics meeting at the Magnolia Hotel in Leesburg unanimously endorsed a statewide movement urging Florida's legislature to enact laws for registration and inspection of mechanics. Florida fruit fly inspection closes under USDA order

Field inspection in Florida for the Mediterranean fruit fly directed by the U S Department of Agriculture has been closed. Lee A Strong chief of the plant quarantine and control administration issued telegraphic instructions. Paul A Hoidale said Orlando offices will close after records are completed and property transferred. The federal quarantine of Florida products related to the fly was lifted on November 15, 1930.

Orlando Spring Jubilee to feature parades and ball week

Florida tourists plan to attend the Orlando Spring Jubilee from April 9 to 12 featuring a grand ball at the Orlando Coliseum a colorful parade with bands floats and decorated cars and a program of sight seeing shuffleboard rogue bowling card parties and water carnival in Lake Eola. Boat races on Lake Ivanhoe follow the parade and a diamond game between Orlando and St. Petersburg is arranged by the Recreation department.

Legion Maintains Summer Saturday Nite Dances

A Dance Committee appointed by the American Legion will continue Saturday night dances through the summer in the Auditorium. The committee, led by chairman Wm. Tanton and including Douglas Hall and O. D. Stephens, aims to provide regular entertainment with Wise Orchestra supplying the music.

Last Program of Tourist Club Highlights Play Buddies

The Florida Players directed by Mr Gordon presented a three act comedy Buddies to a large audience. Mr and Mrs Gordon and Wendell Townsend led the cast with strong performances from all. Club membership reached 641 as winter visitors and townspeople enjoyed a high quality season.

Auto Collision At 11th and Donnelly

Last Friday night a two car collision at 11th and Donnelly in Mount Dora involved a Georgia driven vehicle and a Florida car from Eus tis. Passengers Mr and Mrs Foxworth and Mr Patterson were scratched but not seriously injured. Both drivers claimed green lights. No witnesses existed and, after review, Mayor Lackey dismissed the cases as an accident with each side bearing own damages.

Inland Waterways Meet At Leesburg

A. F. Knott of Yankeetown, president of Florida Inland and Coastal Waterways Association, urged attendance at an inland waterways meeting at Leesburg City Hall tomorrow at 11 00 a m to discuss a cross state canal from the Atlantic to the Gulf via Lake Harris route through Lake County. He warned a route decision this summer could decide the fate of the project for years.

Mystery Play Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde To Be Staged In Mount Dora

Edward Waldmann will present his stage version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at the Auditorium on Friday April 10 for the Pythian Sisters. A New York actor directs a largely local cast with a large orchestra and chorus. Waldmann performs both title roles amid comedy song and dance numbers.

University of Florida Glee Club Delights Mount Dora Crowd

The Florida Glee Club performed March 28 at the Municipal Auditorium under Professor John DeBruyn with Dr. Leonard Gaddum as accompanist. The program featured religious numbers, negro spirituals, college songs, solos by Joe Carter and Frederick Geehan, and performances by the Melod y Crooners and The Harmonians. The event closed with the Alma Mater and Orange and Blue as a tribute to UF.

Wallace Pike Rescued From Lake Dora Gas Blast

Wallace Pike and Bill Norris were refueling a boat at a boat house near Wise Boat Works when a gas explosion burned Pike severely and damaged two boats and the building. Pike jumped into Lake Dora to escape flames, then received medical treatment from Dr. Fenn and Drs. Colley and Woods. Norris had minor injuries as firefighters prevented further damage to adjacent structures.

Seniors To Present Annual Class Play At Mount Dora High

Mount Dora High School seniors have chosen Once There Was A Princess by Juliet Wilbur Tompkins for their spring play. Cast includes Princess Dellatorre Billie Sadler Hazel Boyd Ruby Boyd and others. The show is expected in late April with date to be announced in the Topic columns.

The Mount Dora Garden Club announces its Third Annual Flower Show to be held April 9 10 11. Show hours begin at noon on the 9th and run to 9 pm each day, with Saturday closing at noon. Focus shifts to finer cut flowers and bloom quality.
